Thread: PVP In Space a Joke

This to me is not a challenge, I dont want to see fights where you take 5 mins trying to wear down shields and armour (unless its a big ship designed to have shields and armour to wear down as it cannot manouver and is a flying target) but I would like to see a battle where skill matters and you have time to dog fight. Even if they made it 10 shots to kill them instead of 1 or 2 this would still last less than a minute but you would have the opportunity to dogfight.
As Eaca said.. There are people with the Ace title and then there are actual Aces. Those of us who know how to fly and how to make the best of what we have really don't want our game dumbed down to accomodate those who can't understand how to be our equals or betters.

That is why you fail.....

FIVE MINUTES?!?!?!? Are you insane? 4 shots should be the MAX to take down a fighter. Try evasive maneuvers next time and not sitting there feeling sorry for him waiting for him to come kill you.
Components don't matter?!?!?!?! Let me tell you, I have great components, and in the above situation, I WOULD have taken that hit and lived. Because I have good components!!!
Ace title does NOT mean you're an ace. Sorry, I've fought with real aces out there, it takes 30 seconds sometimes just for ONE of us to get ONE hit on the other, and even then sometimes they don't die! And you people want to make it so two real aces can never kill each other because we can't do enough damage to overcome shield recharge?
If you actually read my post I said I do not want to see a fight last 5 mins. Only if it was a huge ship that should take that long. Such as a star destroyer or huge corevtte that knows it cannot out run and is built to take punishment, And rely onits fighters to get rid of the attackers.
Also I played flight sims since I have had a computer which was many many years ago, back in the days you never even had fancy graphics and you had to sit and watch a load screen for 5 mins. So I would like to think I can fly, hell I can even take on swarms of AI and then some and come out alive which is fun, as there is actual dogfighting involved, which is what all pilots want!
The gripe I am making about PVP in this game is just that you cannot see your opponent more than half the time, especially if already in a dogfight with an npcand you have no time to react or out manouver them as your dead in a couple of hits. Which is less than a second in most cases and also my shields are not tiny little ones, my oppressor actually has some mass compared to the rest of the tie fighters. Hell I can even take 4 or 5 hits from a bloody corvette before blowing up!!
So where is the fun in never seeing your opponent or even hearing the shots and ending up an explosion because someone happend to spot you first while dogfighting an npc? The other point I was making is that it is hard to tell pc from npc on the radar, it should be made a lot clearer so you know there are some flying around nearby which will give you the time to react or make it so pc's and npc ships all do the same damage and take the same damage (where fighters are concerned) that way you will always be on your guard and we will not be getting into this unbalanced isusue.

I am game for the challenge, but there is no challenge here, other than to be the first to detect the other player. Basically, player enemies have the firepower of ten computer enemies, so first player to get the shot off wins. More or less.
No real skill there, other than spotting the player-controlled fighter first. Shrug.
I entered into deep space and saw a player awing attacking the star destroyer. He went about his business and did not seem to notice that I was there as I was bearing in on him (perhaps he was tricking me into getting into position). However, they way he was flying it was almost impossible for me to get a shot on him. Even though I saw him first and I got the jump on him , he still out-flew me and ended up killing me after a bit of dogfighting. I simply could not get a bead on him. He did a great job, and he survived the jump through his skill as a pilot. I congratulate him for this.
If you have ever tried to shoot at a good PVPer in an awing (or hopefully interceptor) who has the engines tweaked and knows how to use their ship, then you know what I mean. Hitting those things can be like trying to swat a fly in the air with a broomstick handle.
If you are flying in a Y Wing or a TIE Bomber then don’t ever expect to be good at PVP. It's just not going to happen. These are bombers, not fighters. The Opressor is probably the only high mass ship which could be considered suitable for PVP, but I really don’t even think the Opressor can really stand up against a good a-wing or interceptorpilot without a really lucky hit.
Doing 6k+ damage per shot and having great shields does not matter if you can't hit anything.
Okram2k wrote:have you guys ever played a flight game where you shoot each other? The point is to dodge, get behind, and kill. Not to rely on armor and and shields to keep you alive. You have to outmanuver your opponent, then kill them. Agility and speed will out weight fire power any day when you are dog fighting with a real opponent. Most dog fights are ended as soon as somebody gets behind someone else, they're dead. Unless you can react fast enough to manuver out from their fire and escape their volley, game over man, game over.So go ahead, complaing about pvp not being able to take more then a couple hits, you're not supposed to, you're in a fighter not a cruiser, now get over it and learn how to dodge.
Ummm... aren't you the guy who is supposed to have a good idea of how things are?
Maneuvering in JTL is a JOKE!
Inertia is seriously flawed, you're stuck using Airplane type maneuvers in space... which makes absolutely no sense, and the dumb target-ahead UI makes it so that a 4 year old can line up a shot.
Most especially though you can't "dogfight" in a Y-Wing, as the original poster stated. You're not going to out-maneuver anything in one, therefore it seems to stand that you're going to have to rely on shields a bit. However a counter-point is that a Y-Wing has a gunner to shoot behind, and I doubt he was using that.
