I hate to tell you guys this but, /sigh, Star Wars isnt real!

Therefore any arguments based on how you think things would work in Star Wars or comparing the real world to Star Wars are basically a waste of time.

Unless you are called George Lucas that is

He's right though, supposedly the time between episode 3 and 4 is something of a technological dark age, where no actual improvements were made because there was no need for more advanced weapons with nobody to fight.

At least, this was the excuse Lucas came up with to explain why there seemed to be more advanced technology in ep 1-3, when in reality its just cause he had better special effects.

For gods sake man get a grip.

The TIE fighter is only a model or a CGI effect, same as the JSF!

The JSFonly appears to move faster and so forth because it is CREATED with better technology by ILM!

In all seriousness these arguments are kind of pointless as until the time we are transported to a place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away (please please SOON) we cant tell anything!

Besides if the Greivous fighter was so great wouldnt Obi-wan given it to Luke in ANH along with his dads lightsaber! Or perhaps gone to the rebellion and whispered "Oi, lads take these plansof the old jedi starfighters and get Incom to make them instead of that crap Xwing!"

I couldn't agree more! Although since Rotw, I have killed a bunch of new people. But they weren't very good. Most wereunaware, but a few fought back but didn't know how to fly.

Alright, I'm just going to say this. I'm tired of people trying to justify everything by the movies or the Star Wars universe. Yes, the game is based on Star Wars. Yes, things should more or less make sense to the Star Wars universe.

But the issue with the new ships goes past whether they should exist or not and blah blah. Its called BALANCE. The balance of the space game.

Now then, lets look at the balance, shall we? I'll make sure to bash just about every ship, for all you who think everyone is biased. Clearly, since they are all hard to aquire/make, they should have some advantage, but not a game breaking one. My suggestions still leave the ships with advantages over similar sized ships, just not as much as they currently have.

Heavy TIE, Heavy Z-95, Heavy Scyk - Advantages: Exceptional manueverability at a very high mass, fairly high speed.Weaknesses: wide weapon spread on the Z-95, single weapon hardpoint. Comparison to previous ship: Change in size for adding 83k of mass, none. Change in manueverability, none. Comparison to ships of similar size (Ixiyen, X-Wing): 3x the agility, 1-2 less weapon hardpoints Suggestion: Lower mass to 50k, lower agility to slightly higher than TIE Interceptor

ARC 170 - Advantages:High manuverability, rear turrets, speedWeaknesses:very wide weapon spread for pilot weapon, limited mass for 2 turrets and aforward firing gunComparison to previous ship:N/A Comparison to ships of similar size (TIE Aggressor): Rougly 2.3x agility, 1 extra turret Suggestion: Lower PYR to 200/200/100

Heavy X-Wing - Advantages:Extremely highmaneuverability formass, 3 gun portsWeaknesses:Somewhatwide spread of weaponsComparison to previous ship:Again, no size increase or manueverabiltitychange for adding almost 100k of massComparison to ships of similar size (Y-Wing Longprobe):More than 3xmanueverability, 1 additional gun port, faster speed, 10k more mass, 1 less missileSuggestion: Lower mass to 150k, PYR to 150/100/75, lower acc/dec to 15/25

Vaksai - Advantages:Very high speed, good size, high manueverabilityWeaknesses:Single weapon hardpointComparison to previous ship:No changes for adding 110k of mass Comparison to ships of similar size (TIE Oppressor):4x agility, 1 less gunpoint, 2 less missilesSuggestion: Clearly still a light fighter, lower mass to 100k, lower PYR to 250/250/200

Imperial Guard Interceptor - Advantages:High manueverability, high speed, smallWeaknesses:single weapon hardpointComparison to previous ship:No change for 30k of massComparison to ships of similar size (Dunelizard): Same manueverability, 1 less gun, smallerSuggestion: Only balanced ship that is in the expansion, good as is

Eta-2 Actis Interceptor - Advantages:Very high manueverability, very small, high speed, high massWeaknesses:Much as you hate to admit it, none.Gun placement is good, speed is high, agility is great, plenty of firepower, very small size.Comparison to previous ship:N/A Comparison to ships of similar size (Ixiyen, X-Wing):Around 3x agility, higher speed, same or 1less gunpointSuggestion: PYR to 300/300/150, remove missile hardpoint, lower to 80k mass

Belbullab-22 - Advantages:Very high maneuverability, good speed, good frame size, good massWeaknesses:Like the Actis, none really. Slightly larger size, but still very formidable Comparison to previous ship:N/A Comparison to ships of similar size (Ixiyen, X-Wing): 3x agility, higher speed, same or 1 fewer gun hardpoints Suggestion: PYR to 250/250/150, speed to .90, acc/dec to 30/40

Y-8 Mining Ship(no stats posted for this onein the FAQ, so I can't do much)- Advantages:MP ship with a forward firinggunWeaknesses:poor turret placement, verydifficult to mine with, hugeComparison to previous ship:N/A Comparison to ships of similar size:Don't knowSuggestion: Improve turret stats, bring agility to lower than the current MP ships since it is much bigger in size

This is exactly the kind of post we need.

***** for you mate!

I especially like you're opening statement, too. There are two ways to look at SWG - one as an attempt to replicate exactly the SW universe. Because of the nature of the movies -and really, they were designed primarilyto sell tickets, not to provide a snapshot of a potential universe - this is an extremely difficult goal to achieve, due to the story which is told.

The other way is to look at SWG as a seperate entity, using some of the philosophies and ideas of the SW universe. IMHO, I think that we need to cut away from the first view, as SWG is so far out of whack with the movies and books that it would require great pain to bring it back in to line.

It would be far easier for the Dev team, and for the players, to stick with the second view.

Star Wars Galaxies really captured the elusive Star Wars feeling....with every new publish you instantly think: "I've got a bad feeling about this!"
