BTW... got into a fight in DS last night with an x-wing or adv x-wing. (wouldn't have had time to look for differences even if I had known what to look for.) It was an excellent fight. I could tell right away that he was a very skilled pilot. In the end it came down to my Vaksai could take more damage. I took at least 3 hits to my front sheild and armor but the turning ability of the vaksai got me in good position to land two blaster hits and a missile hit (he did have chaff or some kind of CM but we were too close together for it to matter.) Having used the JSF quite a bit I can say that I would notwant to face a vaksai in a jsf. With a lvl 10 engine and already high turning rates plus the defensive capability, this thing is a jsf killer.

Thatmight have beenSadkova, unless it was early in the evening. When I left DS, he was still there. I got into a couple nice fights with JSFs last night and confirmed that I really like the turning on my Heavy X with a level 10 engine. I have yet to face a JSF that I can't keep up with in it and the big guns mean the difference between hit->shunt repeat ad nausum (vs a JSF) and hit->kaboom vs my guns.

And I would remember a fight with Pace, who I haven't run into yet in DS. Actually, I haven't run into Pace, Psiko, or Tomo yet in space.

His name was Etog. That was the first I had seen him, but when he hit me twice in the joust (despite my epileptic maneuvering) I thought I was as good as dead.

Definitly, DS seems sort of empty for a server that has weekly mass pvp battles. I am sure we will eventually run into each other. I have been spending alot more time there gathering parts for a couple RE jobs.

Doing the same thing. I want to take part in the big RP battles, but err... will have to do it in my step down Bel fighter, as I really cannot bring myself to decay my Heavy X for the purposes of taking part in a 10 minute roleplay event over Endor.

Now, if I could get something to drop other than boosters and armor in DS, I'll be really happy.

Getting hold of good RE'd components can be difficult for me. I need to take some time and look more carefully at my components. It was mentioned about Droid commands. I hate them and never use them, I prefer to fly by my own abilities and I have been doing fine.

I think I only have one or two RE'd parts on my vaksai. The 150k mass give you enough room that they aren't critcal but still help alot.

As for the droid programs... good luck getting past tier 4 unless you have lots of help, and don't even think about PvP without them. it is possible to solo to ace without droid programs if you are an exceptional pilot, but PvP is full of exceptional pilots and all of them use programs.

I made it to the master missions before discovering I could use more than just the Rebel droid commands (which suck). I'm sure you COULD pull it off to become Ace without any, but... man that would be tedious.

Once you are up in Deep Space and fighting against 12 Tier 5 fighters at a time (frequently happens where I aggro 2 gunboat flight groups that spawn within 1k meters of each other) you'll appreciate the droid commands a lot more.

Are you serious? I have been a master pilot since Kessel was PvP and I have NEVER used Droid commands. I have fought waves of tier 4-5 aces and not used them, fought Corellian Corvettes without them, and basically relied on my skills. Strange, perhaps I should consider trying them out, but In my opinion, you cannot teach an old dog new tricks... and by that I don't think I will ever get used to them.

Using droid commands is NOT a crutch, any more than using a booster or shields or armor. It doesn't make you a better pilot, just a pilot who doesn't use all his tools.

It's the equivalent of fighting with one arm behind your back - sure, you might do well, but all othet things being equal, the guy who isn't handicapping himself will win.

If you think there's nothing left for you to learn, then you're not the best pilot you can be.

Profound and thought provoking. I'll give it a shot.

Malus said that really well. Very good advice on how to think of it.

And in response to: ". I have fought waves of tier 4-5 aces and not used them"

So have I, but I've fought up to 16 (yes 16 at once, there was someone here who claimed 24 in an Awing.. yikes!) tier 5 TIEs as multiple flight groups got stuck at or were spawning out of the ISD and managed to pull it off, heavily thanks to my capacitor overload and shield shunting. (12 is usually my limit for feeling safe though, hehe, I usually take some armor damage against 12 if I'm not really on the ball that flight. 12 is typically 2 flight groups escorting gunboats. The time I fought 16, I limped away trailing smoke from every hole in my ship).

Also, consider this, nearly ALL possible droid commands already existed in the previous X-Wing games in some form or other. They are already part of most pilots repertoireand those games required their proper use in order to successfully complete missions.

Besides, you are making a droid, somewhere, cry from sitting on a vendor!

lol.. when did this happen, Pace?

I was making a quick pass through DS after a Duty mission, so I did a quick patrol. I saw a krayt shooting at NPCs, so I sent it home, and Pace kinda sorta tried to sneak up on me a teensy bit. That's ok, since I had just got done sneaking up on said Krayt. It wasn't a big deal really, I totally understand taking a ship up for a spin and getting in an unplanned fight, but the post made me wonder when do things begin to "count" (and its kinda fun to razz Pace about it since we're both Vaksai fans. It was a nice clean fight, and Pace is actually the first person from forums I've met on Starsider and fought. Saw you once Tomo, but you were on the ground and I was on my alt.
