Stupid question here, but why are there more Imp ships than Neutral/Rebel?

Don't say it's not possible cause I've already done it in my Tie Interceptor. The only saving grace is the maneuverability of the Interceptor. If I chose the Bomber there would be no way I could dogfight and I'd simply be a bright yellow sitting duck. Like mentioned the skill of the pilot makes a big difference. If you don't know how to dogfight then your probably better off in a group with a bomber due to it's superior firepower and armor/shields. However I'll take my Interceptor any day over the bomber against anything but the largest ships(ie Nova, Decimator, corvette, etc...).

Yeah the skill of the pilot may be all well and good in PvP but in PvE it aint worth a damn. There is NO way anyone can solo the tier 3 missions. Finding a wingman to go with you for an hour and a half is nair impossible (thats how long they take for Imp). Where you see master Neutral and Reb pilots. Why? Because the damn ships they have can pack a whallop! Not to mention take a damned beating. Is it me or does anyone else NOT see that?

Yup, same here, so far anyhow. Ive solo'd all the way through tier 4, only one mission left on tier 4 I think. Tier 4 is easy with a nicely setup A-Wing. Solo'd tier 3 missions with my X-Wing, only used the third projectile hardpoint too. Definitely not impossible to do, you just gotta think about things before you do them.

Darpaek wrote:Maybe we watched different movies, but I dont recall anywhere the movies saying that TIE's don't have shields. Nor do I remember ever seeing a blue glow around rebel ships as they were shot. That was something invented for X-Wing to compensate for lacking AI.To be honest, Obi-wan's comment in ANH when they see the TIE could be referring to the vast weakness of such a small fighter surviving on its own - not the lack of hyperdrive. And, the official fighter we're issued by the Imperial Navy (the starter TIE light) doesnt have shields or a hyperdrive, nor can we add them. The imperial story explains all PC imperial pilots as belonging to some elite branch of the Imperial Navy (I, for example, belong to the Imperial Inquisition), where I, as an imperial officer, choose to contract out a more advanced ship from an independent shipwright.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standard TIE's, Interceptors, and Bombers don't have shields. They never have. That's all there is to it. Anyone who knows anything about the EU knows that. Now about the Imperial Story saying something about all PC's being about of elite groups. That could work if we turn on our imagination (which I think is a big part of enjoying games) and say these elite groups get special issue ships. However, the NPC ships have shields to so that doesn't work. I guess the dev's did what they had to to keep the game balanced. And despite what everyone says I do think that is always their intent... I will just use my imagination to tell me the TIE's don't have shields as shoot them down one by one.

How is it that the Tie Advanced and Interceptor can have the same rate and speed modifiers, yet handle differently in a dogfight?
The only difference I can see in the stats listed are mass and an extra gunpoint for the Advanced.
