The way I do the vettes...

Come in perpindicular to the formation... at full throttle aim right for the escorts... blast them as you go through, boost out.

Once you get about a 1k or so from the Vette, turn back into the escorts and keel them all off. Escorts are easy.

Personally, I dont knock off Gun5 and 570m pick the gunboats apart... but I like the challenge. See Rapax's guide for details to the aforementioned (tried and true btw) tactic.

Once I have all of the escorts knocked off... I retreat again (at least 1km) and this time come in from the vette's six o'clock, top side first.... I keep the throttle to full and straffe (I do not target the weapons individually, I shoot them by eye) the length of the vette... I can usually (WO3/4... and decent cannons) knock off 2-4 cannons before having to pull up (and boosting to 1km), all the while executing a CTSS (only after pulling up - your front shields should be quite low by this point - oh I forgot to mention, jink! Dont fly straight lines - corkscrew and stuff yar.)

Repeat as neccesary... I usually hit it perpindicular every other pass... You get hit less on a perp pass than a same line pass... BTW, I have never used any missiles on a vette. =P

But this is just what I do - Rapax's way is easier.

If you are a priv, it is also fun to launch a pirate trap (hehehe) and use them as cover for a pass... blow an iff to steal a second pass... that is two passes (and depending on how good you are, enough to take out the guns).

this is what I prefer doing as it is much more exciting and challenging, except I do less straffing and more circling and evading (and more shunting). If I am in a hurry I use the method I described earlier and maybe add in a bomber strike to take off some of the heat. Only used missiles once and found that I was moving too fast to get a lock although with bomber strike you can slow down a bit to get it.
