If you want to get shot a lot and not be able to turn or fly very fast, get a bomber.

Just stick a bigger gun in your Heavy when you level up.

Unfortunetly the game is a bit broke right now in that there isn't much reason to fly bomber-type craft.

Sure there is.

If you fly a bomber type craft, you can load Space Bombs (Mark II) into it. Then, you can use those to quickly take out larger targets when you are flying with a small group. One of the group protects the bomber, the bomber whacks the Gunboats, the rest of the squad whacks the fighter escort. They are perfect for Vette runs...

No, no. Nobody is attacking you. That's just what always happens and it sucks. We all went through the same thing. We said, Jedi Starfighter!? Cool! And then jumped in and flew around killing everything and were very happy.

Of course then when you start getting good at PvP you realize how overpowered the fighter is. So then you forsake and go fly something else, and so do the people you are fighting against and everything is great.

But then the new guys show up in their JSFs and you're back to square one We all have the option of going back to the JSF, but then, as Rapax said, it becomes the composite of space.

In a game that is supposed to be set between episodes IV and V, do you really want everyone in DS flying around in JSFs?

So its awesome to see you are taking your time and enjoying the profession as you level up. I just hope you give the other ships, that fit better in the time period,a chance when you get to the higher levels. And it sounds like you want to have an enjoyable space experience, so I have feeling you will.

(oh and BTW, the Firespray is a HUGE target in PvP. I would again recommend the TIE/H or the RGI if they ever fix it)

Nah, I can jump in my low profile, manuevable fighter and weave my way through the gun fire to blow these things up just as fast as I can bomb them....and I don't need a fighter escort.

It's not that they are useless, just that anything they can do, another ship can do better (with the possible exception of a tri-Img Rec II equipped Oppressor in PvP).

Bombers need a serious damage and defense boost. Same problem as the POBs, just not as severe.

I just started flyinga week or so ago, so take this for what it's worth.

I'm 3, 3, 3, 2. I used a HT up to 3, 3, 2, 2. I changed to a bomber.At first I thought, "more weapons = more damage." and "more mass = more neato things that I can't carry carry in HT." So I switched.

Holy hell is that thing a pig. I stayed with it to get used to it, which I did. I learned to fly it pretty well, it seemed, but just could not complete my third mission in the 3's. I tried and tried, switched out guns, missles and spent a lot of money I didn't have. I still couldn't do it. Then I switched back.

Jumping from bomber back to HT made Mau feel like flying god (yes I know i'm a noob, I know I am no good at flying compared to anyone in here, but the change from bomber to HT was insane). I was able to fly circles around that third mission. Cake.

NowI'm stuck on the 4th mission and keep running out of time trying to kill Karwhatever Queen. I tried using the Bomber on the Queen mission but I couldn't even make it to the Queen - I couldn't take out the first gunship. Bomber = too slow for Mau to be effective against that many enemy plus gunship.

Ya, as for droid commands , I did not start using them until recently. I am 4333 and I started at 2232 before using droids. I solo alot and if I had known about droid commands I would have not failed as many missions or needed any help. Why , shield shunt alone has saved my butt and armor so much. I read an article that side droids were a waste of weight. My god! that was a damn lie. Droid are the bomb and you do not have to wait for the next pilot trick to recycle. Weapons and caps stay maxed. not just the short time like pilots commands.

Still as for Imp vs Reb ships, I know the empire has disposable ships but they are suppose to be used in swarm tatics. when you are an imp , you do not get the 10 other ships to help you fight the 2 reb ships. So, reb ships have better survivability because of the phylosphy and way of thinking ( imps are just numbers and rebs care about every life ). But is makes it uneven in a 1 vs 1 fight. Like a zero vs hellcat. the zero can manuverue wonderfully but just do not get hit. The hellcat with all that armor just waits for you to fly in frount of its guns and then ... Rip.

This reminds me of the Jedi figher. people say it is an old ship, why is it so good. I also want people to remember that the Republic cared about people and so it could make good fighters. Remember the tie line was a disposable fighter .The JSF was not built as a disposable ship so it would have been better then the basic tie.

The tie made to fight the reb ships was the TIE Defender. That has lots of weapons and SHIELDS. Technically the rebs had shields while the Imps did not. I guess they added shields the the imp so they did not have to have 10 to 1 fights. The TIE defender would be a sweet ship for imps to have. It was really nice in the Tie figher game ( old school).

Mass and extra guns help early rebs. And ya I am guessing the free lance have nice early ships also.

The heavy tie is just about as great as the JSF and Bubba-22. The bomber flies like an over loaded truck. I would stick with the heavy tie all the way untill you can get and use the Royal Guard Interceptor which currently is greater than all other ships.

Ya the small foot print is hard to hit but it is a lite ship also. It is not like there is a 180k load out you can put in it.

It has the smallest footprint and twice the PYR stats with 90k mass. Previously this was the a-wing with 65k mass and the interceptor (50k) and advanced (65k) mass. The old ships were pretty much limited to level 6 engines and level 7 shields for a balanced setup. The new ones upgrade this to level 8. You can't fit a heavy enough gun and L8 engine on the old ships so you're kinda forced to take one of the new ships to compete in PvP.

2nd, the A-wing was easily countered by an Oppressor withtriple im-rec launchers. Reb's and freelancer don't have access to a triple launcher ship other then the nova.

For the original question: I've mastered al imp squadrons in a TIE bomber, with droid commands anddecent equipment it can handle everything.

QFE. DUnno where this converstation was going, but QFE. THe above quote, combined with the fact thats its still a Tie fighter, is why i fly an RGI, bugged hitbox or no.

2) the rebs have such nice ships so early, they should let us catch up with the later ships.

I beg to differ. I was stuck with bombers until Tier 3 when I could get an X-Wing. Soloing Tier 2 CP in my longprobe (I didn't mess with droid commands at the time) as awful. Slow ship + slow engine + lower tier parts = not-so-manueverable ship with mediocre weapons and firepower. I actually had so much trouble that I gave up with my longprobe and used my 12k mass Z-95 to finish the tier up.

I would honestly trade the Imperial ship line-up for the Rebel fighter lineup any day, in terms of ship roles and advancemment anyways. I can't stand being forced into a bomber role, particularly when my flight style is medium-light fighter-esque in it's nature.

Of course, now that there's a heavy Z-95 that can fit just as much good stuff as an X-Wing at novice box, it's kind of a moot point (and this applies to all the factions w/ their heavy variants).

Just curious, were you using low level crap loot parts only in your longprobe? I've been buying crafted components mostly (probably 90%) through my grind so far, and it's been pretty easy really.

I've been Imp ace for quite some time with my main toon, and made another toon on another server to mess around with rebel ships a bit.

I'm up to 3433 vortex squadron (and have done the 2nd tier 4 mission already, just need to grind out a bit more exp for the box tonight) - solo'd every mission (since 2-1-1-1, was in the freebie starter Z95 til then) so far, all in the Longprobe - save for one in the regular X-wing just to test it out.

Properly equipped, at any level, the LP isn't bad at all - and can easily fill the fighter or bomber role. After I work my way through all the tier 4 boxes, I think I'm going to stick with it and solo the vette for my ace badge in the LP just for personal reasons.

But with a nice amount of mass, a very nice flat hit-box on the horizontal axis, and 2 gun mounts + 2 missile mounts - the LP is a very versitile and, I think, underappreciated ship.

All bombers are. I used to fly them exclusively but I've fallen for the heavy-x
