Oh yeah, one more detail. If you have FIVE people, a POB really starts to shine. Nothing like having your systems come back online in an ugly fight without losing Ops or gunners.![]()
Sounds fun. Problem is 5 people in fighters would never have their armor scratched let alone systems fail fighting the same opponents. POB ships need a major revamp, currently they have no combat role.
Sure they do, if you don't mind a challenge.Any group of monkeys can gang bang a YE-4infighters, the POBs represent adifferent kind of combat that takes moreskill toaccomplish than simply loading a bugged Weapon Overload program andCapShunting.
I agree, they could use a power boost, but they're not useless.
No, they don't. Anything a POB ship can do, a fighter can do better. A single fighter. If you want to PvP, a light fighter is better. If you want to hunt gunboats, a heavy fighter is better. A POB ship is certainly not useless, you can still kill stuff with it. But it is totally outclassed by the fighters in all roles, so therefore has no defined combat role.
And they really should have a role. The ships are to cool to be nothing but something different, some sort of challenge. I'm not even sure just upgrading all the parts would be the best idea. I would like to see some sort of boarding action (like factional space stations or capitol ships) so that the POB ships would find a role as a troop transport. Or maybe they would have a role in smuggling, transporting goods you couldn't take on the normal shuttles. Having a combat role doesn't necessarily mean beefing them up to be fighters or bombers.

and totally revamp the turret targetting system.
To what exactly? I can't imagine anything being easier than the mouse to use for turrets. No matter what interface you use, its always going to be difficult to use turrets when the person flying the ship actually has to manuver. Unless your looking for some sort of auto-targeting system, in which case, why not just let the computer play your game for you?
hey, hows it going? your post seemed a little edgey.
a few posts ago i referenced the game "planetside", an SoE game with turreted ships, and the turret interface is much better in that game than in SWG, and, surprisingly, the the computer doesn't "play the game for you".
i liked the suggestion of making the turrets rotate independantly of the ship.
i think there should be some mechanic in place that will allow a pilot to corkscrew all over the place to avoid incomming ships, while not totally throwing off the gunners aim at the same time. i think anyone who has tried shooting at something while the pilot moves the ship knows what im talking about. i mean, yeah, you could always just have the pilot fly deadstick straight all the time, but to most pilots thats "not fun".
I can safely sit on a spawn of a Tier 4 Duty Destroy mission, with myself and a gunner in the top andf bottom turrets, and never have a problem. In fact, we can actually finish the duty mission when it caps at 7k payout. I even took out the ISD 5 times with a crew of 4 including myself the other night. I really do enjoy flying my Nova, with decent crew as Janu says, it can be a devastaing warship. I have PvP'd in it, and we took out a few (ok noobish) pilots and got ripped to pieces a few times, but it's great fun firing 3 missiles at am Imp, and watching him squirm as he tries to shake them off.
I'm in talks with a freindly Imp guild to try some 2 on 2 POB PvP. I can see it getting quite nasty as we close in and open up a full broadside on eachother, with missiles and lasers flying everywhere. oooh, it's goona be so much fun. better dig out my fireproof underwear ![]()
