Thread: Should Multiplayer Ships have 2 Shields?

For PvP, yeah, we could usea secondshield.


For PvE, the Elite shields are actually pretty on the mark for performance, particularly paired with CapShunt. Tier 4's are the lowest level NPCs that could even begin to threaten shield integrity, Tier 5's just mean you need a fast charging capacitor with a high speed droid interface to keep the CapShunts cycling fast.


Put it this way, if the Devs were to give us the option on a second shield that would only affect PvP attacks, then maybe its worth looking into.


I still think a simpler solution would be to revisit damage and defense balances between NPCs and Players to put PvE and PvP on a more meaningful par, but that's something on the scale of a CU revamp.

Shielding and Extra Armour would be very, very nice. It would make POB ships last longer in PVP, and especially in PVE where I take my Decimator out the most. One thing I would like to see implemented only for POB ships (including the Y-8): Cloaking Devices.

How could someone exploit something like that? Have a cool down/start up timer for the devices.

I must say that my limited time in the pilot forums has shown me that pilots certainly do have the most vivid imaginations.


I presonally disagree with most of what is said here. It's easy to figure out why.


1. Then everyone will be flying these ships and suddenly the advantage I am sure some believe this will give is gone


2. You can get a LOT of good stuff now if you take the time to loot the parts. Too many just want, oh there's a crafter, gimme the best. I am thankful it doesn't work that way, or like point one, everyone would have them, then none of us has the best anymore. Right?


I think what WOULD be nice is if the super heavy components were just that. Super heavy. I have my YT loaded out with the best I have looted and REed and it still weighs in at just under 500k. That's 4.5 million free mass!


Why not make a loot drop shield of 2mil mass that has 12k protection? Bet one shield will do just fine then. And a second reactor? C'mon, if using RO3 you are draining your cap faster than it can recharge you need to stop buying over the counter stuff and go hunt a little.


Seriously, there are some NICE ships out there. Just do the flightime and work at it.


Not meant as a bash against anyone or their ideas, just trying to say MP ships are quite feasible ingame and with a LITTLE realistic tweaking within the existing system, they are viable in PvP.


Heck, was in Deep Space the other day for repairs with my crew when we got attacked by a Grievous Fighter. Don't ask me how, but the top gunner managed to hit him. With a 5700 dmg gun and WO4 going, that's all it took.

I'll agree to cloaking devices only if they are true to the continuity: Horribly expensive and double blind: They can't see in and you can't see out.

3K lucky for shields on a decimator? Mine are 4K front and back shielding, they are on the other hand, astroid built elite top of the line parts. I have 4k armor also, astroid made. I have 4K damage railguns, im maxed on everything with elite parts. the parts are out there to be made, just look a bit. I did a run in deep space against a corvette, three gunships, and rebel ace xwings and was simply crusing around taking shot after shot untill I ran into the great wall of space and couldnt turn around, in which I was surrounded and hammered with a crew of three and no repairman.

4k shields? Jebus, what did you have, all amazing successes? I put a full ten points into my Elite shields with almost all greats and a pair of amazings, and only came out around the 3500 mark front back. If that's the case, my virtual pilot's cap off to you... That's awesome.


The best armor I can muster even with enhancers is only around the 2800 mark.

Yeah my shipwright is freaking amazing. the parts cost me 2 mil alone for all the work he put into them gaining full high quality asteroid materials and then working on them to the ungodly point they are.

4k front and rear shields? I've gotten 3.5k with the best stuff I can find. Do you know what subcomponents they're made with? What's the recharge?


To people saying they max out a YT with equipment at 500k mass: 2 POB guns, POB capacitor, POB shield, front and rear POB armor will use up 3 million mass. So far the reactor, engine, and boosters aren't as good as lower level RE or crafted parts.


I don't necessarily want hugeupgradesmade to the system, but (and I've said this a lot) I think the ops chair should control missiles and countermeasures and the pilot should have 1 forward gun. Then make one key the other crew (or any fighter in the group) can use to pick up the pilot's target. Let someone with shipwright skill reload missiles/CM in space. Maybe allow swapping out types of missile tubes while the ship is stopped with shields down or something. Some talk about smugglers having special abilities in space as well.I think giving the existing system a little more interactivity will help more than adding lots of extra numbers.



...would master the pilot profession if the repeat mastery bug was fixed.

It just seems that if you have 4 players on one ship....Good componets or not. They can not be even half as effective as if each of them were in an equaly well built fighter unless they were not masters. Multi player ships are a lot of fun and id rather be on one of them than in my fighter. But if we have just 3 of us to take out a vet. We dont all go in my yt we go in our fighters because everything will be much faster and easyer.

The only bonus to a mp ship is helping lower level pilots and the rp aspect of it. No tactical advantage is gained like it should be.

I will say though i havent worked a lot with the high end crafted mp ship parts.
