I am pretty confident that this is a lag issue. Usually it will occur when you are having a bad connection (do a ping test and a trace route if you know how) but it is very possible the problem is a server lag issue were the server stalls for a second and your computer interprets it as no longer moving. This is only true when it happens to the masses. I haven't had this problem myself, but my server may not be experiencing the issue.

I'll second that thought. I've noticed an increase in rubberbanding and speed drops when a sector has quite a few people in it or I am in an area with alot of graphics. If its possible, tune down your space graphics a bit.

I've also noticed the same thing with too much running in the backround, i.e. Windows Media Player.

Yep, lag for sure. You get out of sync, and then the system puts you back where you're supposed to be. Still is a pain in the butt though!

This has happend to me in every ship I have flown. With every engine. It is very annoying in combat.

It would be nice if it remembered how fast you were going when it puts you back as it can take a long time to get up to speed in the MP ships if you do not have a booster. Also it would make the problem less noticable i think

Happening to me with the last couple of patches. I do not use autopilot. As for lag, while there are definetly lag issues (as evidenced by jumping all over the place at times), I am not sure lag would cause your speed to drop to zero and then resume.

oh man, as with everyone else I'm sure, this happens to me all the time. It even happened during beta testing. I remember reporting it, but it must be something that just happens and is not caused by the programing

It is lag. Your computer stops getting information from the server, the server stops getting information from you and then sets your throttle to zero. Then the lag is gone and you receive the information that you are at 0 and your computer tells the server that you are actually at full throttle, so it speeds back up. Now, I may be a bit off, but this is probably close to what is happening. Make sure to check your connection for packet loss, (you can check in the game) as it might be your ISP's fault that you are experiencing the lag to begin with.

happens to me all the time,

Doesnt bother me that much though, unless i'm flying a mp ship or my b-wing cause they have slow engine boosts then it bothers me some.

Hmm interesting I just thought that it was part of the game, and I have ignored it from the first day of JTL.. I guess I am a very tolerant person hehe..

Going for combination Pikeman/Commando, If I can't blow it up then I will hack it to death

I have began to ignore this and always attributed it to the rubberband/latency effect, however that being said...IT HAS ANNOYED ME ENOUGH TIMES IN COMBAT THAT I WISH THEY WOULD PLEASE FIX IT!!! and I do remember logging off once because it was so annoying!

I regularly have to go off of the offensive just because my shots no longer register hits on the target because I'm so far out of sync. Even if I stop leading the target and get visual shield hits by aiming right at him, no damage is recorded...

So I fly defensively for a 10 seconds or so, wait for the lag spike, go back on the offense. Lame.

here are my findings with this problem.

it ONLY happens when i come into range to load high detail and sporadically at that. IE, i'm approaching a corvette or rebel base and the second i get close enough for the high detail graphics to display instead of the far off low poly display, i rubberband. it never happens to me in normal flight, only when i'm approaching a large object. it's kind of a big deal because i have to reaccelerate and that usually get's me shot. i'd estimate it happens 1 in 30 approaches.

i don't know if anyone else experiences this or has noticed it occuring more frequently in that scenario.
