Thread: has anyone solo'd the corvette mission for the heavy xwing?
I've solo'ed this probably over a dozen times at this point(by solo I mean I helped someone else complete the mission for their heavy xwing, the person who has the mission is instructed to engage anything so essentially I am soloing the mission).
1 - Heavy Xwing - expect up to 3 tier5 gunboats that are also missle happy little critters along with the standard fighter escorts.
2 - Imp Red Guard Interceptor - this one is a joke, worst thing here is a tier3 gunboat, you could probably literally leave the vette alone and it would probably survive this one.
3 - Vaksai - This is basically the same mission as the heavy Xwing (at least it was for me, not sure if ground faction would change this, I'm rebel on the ground/neutral in space on this character).
Take out the initial escort fighters, then use missles to disable the vette.
I used my Heavy Xwing for most of these so had pretty good firepower and shields to work with. When the first gunboat comes in let it engage the vette first then dive in to target weapons02(rear turret) or you can target engines as well. Once gunboat 1 is disabled you can ignore it or finish it off, typically I ignore them once they are disabled. After that you get two gunboats at once(usually spawned before you are finished with the first gunboat). Let them engage the Vette first then engage only one gunboat and disable it as well. At this point you can go back for the third and then finish off any fighters that are left.
For those wondering how I disable the gunboats it's really pretty simple there are two tactics you can use. First and probably the easiest is to joust the gunboats. This can be tricky as the gunboats hit very hard, in order to do this you must have shield shunt(and should be using it regardless). Normally you can make your run into the gunboat and will need to shunt around the time you are actually approaching the gunboat or perhaps just before you actually reach it. On the way out be sure to hit your boosters and jink to avoid any serious damage. Continue out until you can shield shunt again and your shields are full then turn around and make another pass until you have disabled the gunboat. This is the tactic I typically use because it's the easiest to consistantly perform.
The second tactic is to use the gunboats blind spot which is the same as any other gunboat(though slightly smaller). The blind spot is at about a 45' angle below and behind the gunboat or directly below the gunboat. If you can stay in the blind spot this is the quickest way to take them out because you don't need to keep making passes. However, keep in mind that the gunboats here tend to roll often and have 4 turrets on the topside. I have used this method successfully but it can be difficult to stay in that blind spot.
Yes considering that the GB jinks and twists to keep you in it's sites and moves faster than a ship that size should. I've made strafing runs on the GB's with cap to shield 4 and watched my front armor evaporate regardless. Boosting and jinking so far has only allowed the GB's more time to missile lock. Being missile hit 3 times in sucsession by the boats is not fun or cheap on the wallet. I've also seen all 3 GB's spawn at one time with no time to disable any of them. Biggest complaint from 3 others I did this with was that after multiple runs the shields go down to a wopping 98 percent. Best advise Iv'e seen on this so far was to let the Vette get closer to the station first and attack from the blind spot behind the engine. I have actually attack the vette from that point and it does work toa point (so long as you dont get attacked by random spawns and have to leave the safety of that zone to fight them. Not my best day ever)
