Thread: Call to Slay all Lazy Ace Mission Doers

Well, it took me months to finally solo the 'vette. And, since i've never been able to get the hang of the solo technique, I had no choice but to do suicide runs (since no one would/could help me); so I damn well earned that badge even if I did leave the gunboats behind. I guess we can't all be ub3r 1337 pilots who can solo the SD in a Z-95; some of us actually had to work damn hard for our badges. My Rihx is virtually unflyable now as a result of my numerous 'vette attempts. While I'm not proud of leaving the GBs on my successful 'vette run, I don't appreciate being called an idiot, lazy, or being told I don't deserve my Ace badge.

If stupidity got us into this mess then why can't it get us out of it?

I don't need to hate people on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, nationality, or any of those other things. 30 seconds of conversation usually does the trick.

Oh, any update as to when you're getting a fast connection? I was thinking of setting up another training sortie this week.

No updates

But this weekend my dial-up speed was faster (a whooping 31.2K) and so I was able to finally patch pub 22 and get in the game. Ran a Black Sun duty with Larikuj, didn't seem too bad - I chalkany slowness up to being in a dunelizard with outdated components. As long as I stay away from large amounts of activity / combat, I seem ok. Diving through the caves to get to Nek pwns my connection, as does the Avatar Station. Training sortie should be fine, as long as my connection speed holds, I'm hoping that had gotten some of the line updated which is why I got better speeds.

Meh, I prefer it when the guy before me leaves the boats. That way when I kill the boats I know exactly when the vette will spawn. Most master pilots should be able to clear the boats.

Ok. Well, I talked to Machine this morning and he's getting his connection back on Saturday, so Sunday morning would probably be best for the training sortie. I'm also in discussion with Olias for a possible Deep Space battle for Sunday afternoon, but that might not be a good dial up event. I would hate to have to go into a PvP battle without you again.

It's tedious, I know, but you will never be rid of the inconsiderate or un-informed player-pilots, so best you should know a resolution that will allow you to...

...move along, move along...

That's exactly the way I did it last time I encountered this problem. Didn't take too long.

Waiting for the vette to spawn afterward sucked though.

Just go do something else for a while. The vette spawns 1.5 hours after the last gunboat dies. As long as you watch the clock you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah i caught that as i posted it, but didnt think anyone would catch it.

It's kinda like at work when someone says, "NIC card."

Network Interface Card Card. LOL

Or ATM machine? Automatic Teller Machine Machine? (could just be an aussie thing )

Actually, I've been told ATM actually stands for Automous Transfer Mode in the industry. Automated Teller Machines is a layman's b*stardization.

In the networking world, ATM stands for Asynchronous Transfer Mode, which is probably what you heard. In the consumer world, ATM is Automated Teller Machine when you're referring to those machines that spit out money. The two are totally different things.

I always destroy the gunboats when I do a Corvette. It's so easy since they're flying in a straight line that there's no reason not to.

If I know when the Vette last died or jumped, I'm up 1:15 after that and just proceed to read the forums, checking back every 10 minutes ... but right now, I'd be better off on dial-up than my current ADSL, it's so slow I was watching the editing icons for this message load one by one...

While it is usually the case that failing to destroy the gunboats will prevent the next Corvette from spawning, it is not always true. I recall one time I was at the exit point, and had just finished destroying the gunboats circling there (it's not difficult, actually; I only got hit once, when I got too close), when the Corvette, with full escort, sailed past me and exited the system.

Back in January or Febuary, I saw the scariest sight: Ifound the rebel corvette disabled not 500m fromexit point, with no gunboats in sight but all its guns. Not 1000m behind it was another corvette with full escort and behind that a 3rd 'vette, with full escort. All 3 rebel. I wasn't sure if I had died and gone to pilot heaven or hell... soon after I found myself back in Endor.

You know, I'm usually up for a challenge, but there is no way in hell I'm getting near 3 'vettes at once. One lags me out quite enough, thank you.
