Hey, now that's not fair. Why do you have to go and call me an idiot just because I choose to destroy the 'vette before the gunboats? It's not like I leave them there (the chance of getting a good engine or weapon off of them is too high for me to ever leave gunboats alone), but I like to have everything wrapped up before I go dealing with those.

It's kinda like at work when someone says, "NIC card."

Network Interface Card Card. LOL

Or ATM machine? Automatic Teller Machine Machine? (could just be an aussie thing )

Actually, I've been told ATM actually stands for Automous Transfer Mode in the industry. Automated Teller Machines isa layman's b*stardization.

People leaving the gunboats behind is a royal pet peeve of mine, gets me undies in a bunch.

If this is true, the first word is probably "Autonomous", as "Automous" isn't really a word at all.

Before I take a pilot on a 'vette run I make the point very clear. They do not owe me anything for my time, but they cannot leave the system (only for repair) until those GB's are dead. Granted, I usually take them down while they are in the euphoria of finally making Ace (or Master as the case may be) but I make it clear that they do everyone a disservice by leaving them intact. Everyone I have gone with has no problem staying to kill them once they understand why it is neccessary. The fact is, very few people read the forums or use it properly to gain the information they need.

imsuper laid back, but this really pisses me off.

because its SO easy to disabled the vette and let the gunships fly away. I don't have a problem with people doing this as long as they finish the job and kill the escort. but nope, they kill the vette, hyper out, than brag about soloing their master mission. which is shht.

Heh, I normally have the gunboats obliterated before the corvette is half scratched, Razz.

Oh, any update as to when you're getting a fast connection? I was thinking of setting up another training sortie this week.

I've done the vette thing several times for people. I don't mind doing it, i kinda think it's fun. I just have a few issues. One of em is the gunboat thing. I was with someone the other day and when i said, 'Ok, lets take the gunboats out' she was already out of the system and told me we sould just leave em like everyone else does. That kinda made me mad. Everytime i go to Kessel i go to the exit point for the vette to check for GB's, just cause i don't like thinking that some poor pilot might have to wait until whenever cause they don't know to look for laziness and clean up someone elses mess and then wait around another 2 hourson top of that.

Everytime i go to do the vette, i walk the ppl thru it before we see it. I tell the exactly what I'm going to do and what they can do. But so far, none of them have done anything but taken out one or two escorts and the bridge. Even when I tell them to come and shoot the thing they can't figure out how to target and hit the subsystems. Am i the only person that figured out what the '[' keys are for around 1000?

That being said, i think there are way too many aces walking around out there. Not sure if any of the ppl i helped went back and tried it by them selves of not, but kinda doubt it. Anyway, that's my rant about the gunboats.

Doing the circling gunboat pair is not to difficult with a bit of patience and practice.

You need to have a really fast ship. The gun boat guns have an effective range of around 500 meters with you dodging. So you'll need a ship that can go at least 1500. This will make your ship vunerable to turret fire for just over 7.5 seconds. (3.3 seconds going in 3.3 seoncs going out)

Boost in and out when making a run on a gun boat.

Approach the gun boats so that only one can shoot at you and exit the same.

Take plenty of time in between to recharge sheilds to max. Even if there is a little charging do be done make sure it gets done. You'll waste the extra 30 seconds but every little bit helps.

Don't loiter to "get that last bit" of component/sheild/armour. You'll be able to nail it on the next pass.

Make sure your able to cap shut when making your run. You will get hit and if you get unlucky you'll need the shunt. Expect to be hit.

Go for the guns 3 4 5 and 6 first cuz those are usually the ones hitting you when you make your passes.
