I don't personally find bright red the easiest colour to pick out against a black background. I might just be wierd, but from the perspective you'll se an RG TIE in a turning fight, it doesn't exactly look like a supernova . However..I might just need to turn my moniters brightness up.

I agree too. If they just slide the hitbox over the entire balls..that'd be somthing.

so you think you were aiming with the bolt instead of the center? or were you using a xwing/bwing/firespray/krayt?

has anyone considered the possibility that a red ship could be easier to hit than a black/grey ship? and thus the devs purposefully decreased the hitbox size to compensate for the bright red beacon screaming around?

People keep citing things like this, and I don't get it. Like saying a small ship is harder to fight because you don't see them coming (I'm NOT talking about hit avoidance here). Someone even cited the Imperial ships as being harder to see because they were black, while rebel/freelance ships tend to have more white or be painted.

Do ya'll not see those bright red and blue brackets surrounding ships in space? I usually notice that long before the ship model really renders. You could make a ship pitch black and 1/8th the size of an Actis, and I'll still see it coming thanks to the brackets.

problem is, the brackets don't indicate hitbox size, the models do, and grey/black blends in with a mostly black background (or even a non mostly black background) easier than red. i definately notice the difference playing both sides, or even between differently colored x-wings for example.

so you can aim all you want at the box, you still have to make a determination about what's in the box and where to go from there.

I'm not talking about the box, just purely in spotting them. Once a ship is close enough to shoot, I've never had trouble making out the body either. Camo just seems irrelevant in space, but lots of people seem to cite it as a valuable ability.

pure speculation, you're right i have nothing to back that up with aside from "hmmm that ship (for me) is harder to see."

For the one who asked how Leaph and I tested the hitbox. It could not been under more controlled conditions. He was in his a-wing. We met in deep space. We were both stopped with all shots planned and set up. I turned tie into positions to be tested. All hits except side hits registered just fine in first shot. Leaph knows how to hit a red tie. The side shots never registered. He took about 10 shots to side. These non-registering shots were on a complete side, not an angle. The shields were showing graphics of being hit, but no hit was registering.
As for how hard it is to bee seen. In the spirit of the Red Baron the easy seen color is a way of saying "I'm here, Bring it on!"
