We can split hairs all day long, but at the end it's fairly obvious what SOE did. Whether the cap ships are just something they were playing with or not, it seems pretty obvious from the way they hyped them up at the fan fest with the video and narration that they fully intended for the audience to believe they were on the way. Someone in another forum said that stratics comment was just intended to calm an eager audience and get us to be patient - if so it should have been worded much more carefully. In the end? Good marketing ploy. Bad ethics if that wasn't their intent. S.O.P. for SOE.
I think the coding is more or less complete or near to it. From the film they showed its obvious alot of manhours had gone into it before they even showed said film at fan fest. Bottom line, is, if we get cap ships, its going to be attached to another expansion - not this upcoming one, but another one. SOP for sony is to moneygrub with lots of expansions. Just look at EQ, they're STILL making expansions for it.
I mean come on lets face it, captial ships are a HUGE addition hype wise, you think they're just going to give it to us just like that? Oh hell no, as cool as it is, they stand to make some more money off it, and thats exactly what their going to do in the future.

Yep, this is the last I heard on the subject. The coding is there, but there's no solid plan on implementation. Makes me wonder what barriers they're hitting...like lack of room in the space sectors, or balance issues...

They also denied promising a so called "Smuggler Revamp" even though there was a focus thread by GreenMarine (Dev who since has quit that was in charge of the revamp).

"why show it if you're not gonna deliver?"
At E3 this year they showed off that Final Fantasy 7 would look like on the PS3, and called it a tech demo. It was beautifull, moreso than anything else I have ever seen. They insisted it was just a tech demo, not playable, nor will it be.
Up to this day, there are people that have the firm belief it's being developed.
