EQ2 is not the money maker it was thought it would be. Subscribers have made a substantial decline...

My understanding is EQ1 was having better success then eq2. Heh, but who said I know anything! :/

What I'm seeing is a lot of dissatisfaction. Fine. I'm certainly not going to say that isn't justified since I feel it, too. What this thread started with, though, was an attempt to put more blame on SOE for "screwing over" the player base, short-changing us on content, and pretty much lieing to us. In this case, as with so many other attempts made to crucify SOE on specifics, the facts simply do not back up the hate. Cap Ships are just a perfect example of players blaming Devs for not doing something that Devs never said that they'd do.

Smuggler Revamp, and the lack of any actual Smuggling? Fine, get pissed off.

Cap Ships not getting implemented? Stop pretending that you have some basic right to be mad when your speculations turn out to not be what's really happening.

I have yet to see any Dev quote - Fan Fest, FoC Chat, Forum post, etc - contradict any other one about the possibility of Cap Ships. As far as we know: the basic code exists, at least one Dev has fiddled with it regarded scripted events, and there is no plan on how or when it will be (or will ever be) implemented. As far as I have read, anything beyond that (including this "it's coming" talk in this very thread) is pure speculation.

As far as JtL not getting much attention? If you want to feel that way, go ahead. Considering the proportionately small section of the game that is "JtL," I personally think it has come out of the last year pretty well. We have pretty well fleshed out pilot paths that have been expanded upon since launch. We have the most engaging progression path of any profession. We had a significant amount of RotW expansion dedicated to increasing JtL content. While I certainly do not approve of the implementation of all aspects, I think JtL has been given a good bit of attention since the inclusion of space as content.

I do not care if you guys want to pass out torches and pitchforks, if you want to make petitions, or if you'd like to see mass subscription cancellations. When you start making up reasons (like this one) to do so, however, count me the **** out.

Well, it was actually mentioned that they are "bringing capitial ships to the players" at fanFest. That presentation was made as a main closer for the entire event almost as to "reward" the players on "what to expect" in the future of SWG.

From what I recall it was narrated to detail how players could seemlessly board a ship and walk through the hangar and onto the bridge. Much emphasis was placed on the fact that ALL of it was taking place _WITHOUT_ loading sequences inbetween flying to boarding to walking onto the bridge. The text. and live narration from one of the producers, was that of recieving a mission to commodere a captured rebel corvette and take control of it on a mission. The shot then showed the ship as if it was parked across the bow of an Imperial Star Destroyer later to be boarded, yes...walking around with some visual signs of failed resitence, and communicating with the acting security to take control and hyperout.

Yes, it was said "this is what to expect in the future of SWG!" I'm sorry you were not present to be misled.

The problem is there needs to be a greater concious effort in design, implemnation and effective communication with the consumers who are capable of making or breaking SOE and/or SWG. Being felt as you're being lied to is not how a company enssure their investment of capital will yield a return to further production.

If SOE is a model of how to run a game production studio I would hate to see "how not to run a gaming studio".

As cool as that might be, I'm not sure that I can see being able to get 1000 players in order to realistically man a capital ship.

Hmmm... Any word on the Cyber Legs, or are those just eye candy too?

Just saying that it wouldn't suprise me if they just showed it to us as something they were thinking of doing, and then decideing not to do it. Just look at the 'Cyber Legs' that were supposed to be put in game. I know one thing, I am not going to die 50+ times in Kessel hoping that I respawn at the Dantooine Space Station in a Corvette.

Calm down. I'm hoping that they wait with the cap ships until they release an expansion that includes more JTL stuff, and no new planetsthat haveno new space.

Yes, but EQ2 has a lot more room to grow given the technology. EQ is pretty much destined to become another UO.

SOE won't allow the sequel to their original flagship MMO (or rather, their original flagship MMO acquired from Verant) to fail. SWG, on the other hand, I fear is expendable in their long-term strategy.

All you'd really need is one person for every gun, a pilot, copilot and however many repair people you wanted.

As I recall there was a post from a dev indicating they were looking into this, but nothing definitive that it was coming, only that they were considering it.

Hmm.. how about when, at FanFest, they said player-controlled capital ships would be in the game within a year, worst-case scenario?

I just inquired about this new Stratics quote, by the way. It's true that you can't count on anything going live that isn't live already, but given the discrepancy between the way player-controlled cap ships were discussed in the past and this quote here, I'd think we deserve some clarification on how things stand.

We can split hairs all day long, but at the end it's fairly obvious what SOE did. Whether the cap ships are just something they were playing with or not, it seems pretty obvious from the way they hyped them up at the fan fest with the video and narration that they fully intended for the audience to believe they were on the way. Someone in another forum said that stratics comment was just intended to calm an eager audience and get us to be patient - if so it should have been worded much more carefully.

In the end? Good marketing ploy. Bad ethics if that wasn't their intent. S.O.P. for SOE.

I seem to recall something from the Euro fanfest that indicated that capital ship programming was completed and they were only awaiting a balanced means of implementing them.

Its pretty obvious the Dev team HAS put some serious man hours into implementing capital ships, and I sincerely doubt they're going to flush those man hours down the toilet. There's something in the pipeline coming, just a matter of when...
