Well its not a big deal grinding your Faction back... what bites is if you are an Ace Reb pilot and THEN decide you want the JSF!

I was lucky,... I picked Freelance so i was able to bounce all around on the ground faction while grinding space completely seperately.

Now I got the ARC, JSF, Grievous,... well everything I wanted

My friend was a Rebel pilot, almost at ace, and he wanted the JSF he dropped all his skills and took up RSF. He turned Imperial (thanks to a generous FP donation by me) and got the Eta in one night. I helped him grind pilot, by hitting the Deathwatch Spawn point in Endor and disabling ships while he destroyed them. He was Ace in a week anda half. It's not as bad as everyone thinks.

Grinding back the Xp is not the problem. The 2 hour missions to get trained in your next box is the problem. When I made Ace, I was on medical leave and had the time for 2 hour uninterupted missions. Now I don't.
