But to get on track, I'll be posting my video soon concerning the ghrag t5 duty mission. Now publish 24 is released the final stage can take place...POB ships vs lots of t5 ghrag gunboats with the 'kiting' tactic made illegal.

I think that'll be a fair test as to seehow trivialised pve ina POB is.

sorry not trying to flame you in this constructivethread but just wondering are you already calling for nerfs on the best thing to come to jtl since it came out? just wondering

I'm not calling for nerfs. Not flaming you either but can you read?

You havnt been following my little project of doing what is one of the hardest missions in the game in as difficult a way as possible. (which is ok, but I kind of assumed most people knew about it because I talk about it often enough). Basically though, the tier 5 ghrag duty mission is hard enough in agroup ofstarfighters, let alone a POB so thats why it'll be a good test.

Prior to Pub-24, doing this misison in a POB would be next to impossible so I've been eagerly WAITING for pub-24 so I can continue the project in POB ships. Now they've had the most righteous tripling of their component stats, it means that my group and I can take this mission on to the extent of the full 5 Ghrag gunboat wave finale and film it.

What was I calling for nerf on? Kiting is a tactic btw, where you lead away an NPC (because they're not very smart) while others blast it safely from behind. During this mission, I will be banning this tactic as I wish to see the full extent as to which POBs can be used because I liek to experiment.

The experiment being 'Ok, so how good are POBs in 'difficult' PvE post pub-24'

You've confused me as you make no sense and really didn't read my post clearly. Also, if you care to read some of my other posts you'll notice I never call for nerfs, even on ships like the JSF. Please, adjust your unjust oppinion...now.

After our experiments this morning, I'd say that the components are fine for PvE. Not sure about PvP yet, for they're balanced for PvE.

The only real issue I have is with the customization and guns. By customization, I mean that the engines look the same no matter what, all of them on YT-1300's look like that old ( ) (_______) ( ) engine that a lot of people don't like for instance. I've mentioned several times before a menu to select the visual that engines, boosters and guns (both the weapon model and firing effect) use, all of the visuals are there so there's no need for a lot of extra art, just a menu to select which one your ship uses. It may seem small, but it would let players really choose how their ship (not just POB ships, fighters too) looksand make it to their liking rather than certain parts giving the model they prefer. I honestly don't think this would take a lot of extra work on the Devs part, though I'm no programmer, seeing as all of the models and effects are in the game already, how hard can it be to add a menu to let us pick them from?

As for the POB guns, including what I said above, I really think they have by far the most annoying sound effects and visuals. I simply can't bring myself to install them on my ship because they are so ugly and distracting.

Edit: Removed accidental smily in engine example

Had a few rounds against a Y-8 and a couple Nova Couriers last night. Flying my vanilla Interceptor with L6 gun, mind you, so I wasn't pumping out as much damage as I could have.

The Y-8 went down pretty easily, because of the blind spots, but I did have to stay on my toes. Those near-miss shield flashes really wake you up in the morning

The Novas were even better. No blind spots and very very quick. Almost have to stay in knife-fight range the entire timeso the gunners have to make big corrections to stay on target. Shields take a pounding, and the 0.26-0.27 refire guns act like anti-aircraft cannons. One shot dropped my shieldsand armour to 0. No component damage, so its going to take a few hits to bring down a heavier fighter.

Overall... I love the changes. Much needed new element in PVP, and I expect to see them much more often in DS.

Care to expand on that? Specific analysis would be pretty useful.

I took up my Decimator last night after getting it (and my Y-8, but didn't take it up yet) with Elite parts. Great machine now. The crew was only myself, my Senior Operations Technician that was running ops in the top turret, and then a completely green Novice that we picked up in Mos Eisley. We didn't get an escort fighter, and we still did very well for such a small crew. Even without a proper Ops tech and with a very new pilot manning the ventral turret, we could tank a Corvette in Deep Space and its swarm of fighters for a few seconds before having to boost away, and the only time we were in considerable danger was when we had about 11 Rebel fighters that we had to boost away from after they ate through my rear shields and armor. We retreated to the Star Destroyer and sat in the docking bay while my crew and I fought the plasma fires. Great time, and I'll definitely be doing it again.

The only way those components are 'balanced' are that now 3 pilots in a POB are closer to being as effective as 3 pilots in separate ships. However, the parts and what they allow a crew to do in Space is not balanced on an objective scale. Han Solo never ever coasted his YT1300 100m off the bridge of a star destroyer and blew it up, yet now I can say I have, which I find ridiculous. Calling them balanced because we don't want them changed is disingenuous, and only clouds the facts.

The new POB components will get people into POBs, but will they stay there after more than a few fun jaunts? Only the people who have been offering "training cruises" for the backseat pilots, yet now they will have the advantage of taking on bigger and badder targets with ease, getting the turret jockeys more xps faster, and further lowering the quality of piloting out there in the long run.

Now, do I think there should be a step backwards? Removing the changes, or looking at the numbers again, and tweaking them? No. Took months to get them to do it this once, and there's no point in throwing that out the window because itIS someone's hard work, and the POB experience IS more fun now.

What do I say should be done? Use the POB as further evidence of the trivial nature of Space PvE overall. Get more discussion like this one:

Whether they'll stay or not is yet to be seen, but the RS's groundpounders are all suddenly in space and having an awesome time. It went from being split between like 3-4 TS channels to everyone talking in the space channel..... It might be flavor of the month, but it's fun as hell so far. And it opens up or options for our weekly space events.

POB Armor - The boost to the ArmorHP is exceptional. A few time that our shields have failed if it wasn't for the Armor we never would have had anytime to Shield Shunt back up. The Armor HP is at a good level.

POB Shields - This just makes the POB ships worth flying. The Shield hitpoints front and back are again Exceptional. Also the Raise in the Regen Rate really helps the ships become more space worthy.

POB Capacitors - Excellent. The max energy stored as well as the Recharge rate allow it to fire contiuously instead of having to worry about power consumption.

POB Engines - Fastest engine. LOVE IT. The Maneuverability again is much better than it was so it helps at lower speeds where the POBs are most agile.

POB Guns - Possibly some of the better crafted weapons that Shipwrights can craft. However I think its possible to get a level 10 weapon with higher vs. armor and vs. shield than the crafted Guns. Maybe a comparable refire rate so long as we are not comparing it against a quickshot upgraded POB weapon. So I like the fact that you can still go out and spend time looking for the best level 10 Components to put in the POB.

POB Boosters - Adds exceptional amount of speed to get away when you're in serious trouble. However they are bugged. Once the Booster has finished decelerating after a boost the Ship comes to a dead halt at Zero and then has to speed back up to full speed giving plenty of time for the Fighters you were trying to escape to catch back up.

All in all the Upgrades have seriously helped the POB. We took my YT-1300 up against a vette in Kessel and survived killing everythingit could throw at us. We then took it to DS and let loose the YT fury on the ISD. It took a bit to destroy it due in part to severe lag. But otherwise it was fairly simple. The shields hold up nicely and there is still some skill needed to take down enemies. The YT fairs well in what little PvP combat we have experienced but we have been practicing a bit.

I took my Bwing up to DS for our Sunday night fight hoping to get in some rounds with a POB. Unfortunately the imp side didn't field one. However later on I ran into a Deci and was able to see how well the Bwing held out. I was able to avoid the fire well enough and get in some hits here and there at first. After all that was done I got serious and let lose a good 2-3 second salvo on it coming in and was able to take it out pretty quick. Shields were down to 60% I think, can't remember exactly, but i know they weren't full. I was also trying to get a missle lock to let loose a pair of mark 4 protons, but hte lock time is pretty long. I coulnd't hold it longer then 2 seconds before I had to evade.

Also the bwing I have is fitted out with a lvl 8 reward shield at 2555 f/b and some 1800 armor f/b. So I have pretty good defense. I did take a shot late in the fight to the front and was able to survive it. Dropped my front shields to 0 and damaged some of the armor. But I did survive the hit.
