Decay in PvP.

PvP should only have decay on special occasions. PvP is already unforgiving and fast, if we introduce decay into this I think it will drive ppl away. I really like using my awesome loot to setup my ship for pvp and like knowing that win or lose I still have my awesome loot and so does my opponent. (Assuming battle is in deep space)

I've mastered the Pilot profession 4 times between my 2 accounts and find that the initial grind up to master is with loot I can afford to lose but once I make ACE/MASTER I start using the top shelf items. I'd hate to lose those items and if pvp had decay most pilots would come to the table with stock equipment that can be easily replaced and the battles would lose a very vital part of their entertainment, using your best loot!

Now I said earlier that pvp should have decay on special occasions. PvP Events and special battles should have the option of turn on decay if the event coordinator wants it. For large battles that will hopefully happen in the future we don't want the players with the best loot exploiting their advantage and making millions of dollars in loot the standard for these battles. Turning on decay in a battleground will even out the equipment used in ships. Some players may come in with awesome loot but they are taking a huge risk, and players that come in with stock equipment may have lower stats but they have almost no risk with the components they are using.

My hope is that Battlegrounds will be implemented in space and have rewards for participating. But to participate players will have to risk decay on their best loot or use stock equipment purchased through shipwrights. This would give players a reason to keep purchasing things from SW's and allow them to continue to use their prized loot in combat as well. This would keep the playing field pretty level as well, as most ppl on the battle ground should be using SW crafted items and those items are available in massive numbers.

The way to implement Battlegrounds in space is very similar to Deep space except the rebel/imperial targets can change and one would be tasked with attacking the other. Players can come into the zone are participate in the battle. If their sides wins they receive a reward, if other side wins they get the reward instead.

Example
Rebel Space Station Launches 15 Corvettes to attack ISD.
Rebel Medical Frigate plus 4 crovettes attack Imperial space station.
Imperial Corvette's attack Rebel Corvette's.

You get the idea, battleground would be in motion 24/7 and would have a purpose. Players can join and participate in the battles and be rewarded for their efforts.

Eh Tumbler...

We already have decay in PvP. Just Deep Space is save, but everywhere else you have decay, and thats the focus of this thread here I think. Not removing the "non decay" protection from DS.

This is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. There are more important issues that should be addressed than this minor issue. The easiest way for there to be no decay IS TO NOT DIE. I've seen a bunch of arguments. First Iwill addressthose general arguments that have cropped up.

1) "More people will PvP"

This will not happen. Deep Space was made non-decay and all that happened was savvy master pilots jumped there to get decay-free repairs. On my server some used it for PvP training but most master pilots were just grinded out wanna-bes who clinged to the fiction that all space PvP is a couple of shot kills. These people are just whiners they will not get back into space, they got their badge and now just wants to spoil our party in space.

2) "PvP is a one or three shot kill, we decay too much because of this, change it!"

This myth is perpetrated by people who don't don't work on their ship components, cannot fly or have no spacial awareness. There was a great post a week or three ago with this adice: LEARN HOW TO FLY! WORK ON GETTING BETTER COMPONENTS! You don't even have to be overt for to learn how to fly or get better components.

3) "It's like that on the ground, why not space!?"

Because space is space! Look what's going on with ground right now. Namely Combat Upgrade. The ground was destroyed by so many whiners that they had to overhaul the damned thing in one fell swoop. Space on the other hand, has a great combat system. It has been tweaked yes but we do not need to start making space like the ground, because the ground is a freaking mess. If this is the argument, then it is sorely lacking.

New idea:

"We need new kits that overhaul components to pristine condition"

This is cool, but original condition is a little much. It really would destroy the economy in my opinion. Chasis damage has to stay without condition repair. After all, a chasis is a dime a dozen toa realpilot.

My opinion:

Keep decay.

1. For the economy, because PvP in space is the only time I and most people I know really (if ever) take decay damage.

2. You grinded out uber parts? Cool. Do it again!

3. Space content is much more important than this minor issue, more space content please.

Thank you.

PvP decay should be avoided at all costs IMO. From a gameplay perspective, it's just not fun to loose your components due to another player.

i think a great thing for shipwrights would be to greatly increase decay on chassis, but eliminate it on components. when ppl have extremely rare looted and RE'd stuff, they tend to protect it, and hence pvp less. but a chassis, for the most part will be the same, provided u get similar resources for it. so maybe make it so a chassis can only be destroyed 15-20 times b4 its useless, but make the resource requirements less taxing for construction. then, make the components take very little decay, even less than the current amount, or none at all. IMO shipwright constructed components are useless once you are a master anyway. not one pieceof my b-wing is player constructed, with the exception of the chassis and FC. i will never use player constructed components again, they just dont compete with loot. make it so ppl need to replace chassis, which cost money, but at least they ARE replacable. alot of my components, we will see if i loot anything as good again, aren't.

On the one hand there are shipwrights who don't want to lose business. On the other hand, there are pilots who don't want to PvP outside of Deep Space for fear of losing their powerful, hard to obtain RE-ed components. So what components are they buying from shipwrights? Ones that aren't RE-ed, obviously. Here's my suggestion:

No decay for RE-ed components. Either set it up so that if a component is flagged as RE-ed it won't decay, or the ShipWright can, while making the component, choose a "no-decay" option rather then the granting the percentage increase in stats. This way people still buy new ShipWright crafted components and new chasis, but they can be assured that their RE-ed components are safe.

Most PvP takes place in deep space between master pilots so in general we do not have decay in pvp. DS should remain the same. People do not PvP in other zones like naboo, lok, dathomir, etc. Those zones should remain as they are and there should be new zones created similar to DS some offering decay, but mostly offering Decay free battlegrounds for master pilots to play in.

If decay were turned on I believe the effect would be that players would use less re'd components and primarily outfit inexpensive ships with stock equipment that sw can crank out for cheap.

On special occasions or in special zones where it is important to keep the playing field level this may be preferred, however I prefer to keep decay off as much as possible so that pilots can enjoy the fruits of their labors.

Most PvP takes place in Deep Space?

I'm 46:5, and most of mine have been in Kessel, POST-change. Only about 4-5 have been DS.

For me i'd say 70-75% of my pvp fights have been outside of DS. I'd say my number onepvp zone is Kessel. With Endor being second. I have had pvp fights in Naboo, Lok, and Dantooine.

DS is limitiing in pvp fights because of the fact that it is ONLY masters that can go there. Unless you're in a MP ship. So in that sense Kessel is the place to be. That's why I support no decay in pvp outside of DS.

auto repair to fullon pvp death.the more people who experience jtl pvpwithout worries like equipment the better, and the other zones should be enjoyed as well.

does shipwright need to be a viable profession? sure, of course, but not at the expense of another and there are a plethora of ways to make both sides happy.

worthwhile pve consumables would keep shipwrights in the green for a long time.

Most of my PvP has been outside DS. So perhaps thats true on your server or you just don't go looking for PvP somewhere else, but please don't talk for everyone there.

You say it yourself, noone PvPs in Naboo etc. Even though I don't agree with the "noone" statement, alot won't PvP outside, and thats all I want to change.
Remove decay from PvP at all and it will be good for overall PvP everywhere.

85-90% of my PvP kills have been outside of deep space. Primarly Kessel and Dantooine if i remember correctly.

The problem with decay ... if my RE engines decay, I may not be able to find another engine that fits / performs as well. Too much of a long term impact ... imagine getting a RE level 10 engine that is sweet ... then it decays away. Um, no thanks.
