What the helll is macross?
Ever watch robotech as a kid?
Macross is the japanese cartoon that was dubbed into english to make the first season of robotech.
Macross plus is a follow up, it's about 2 test pilots flying cool fighter ships that can transform into robots and battling it out in a competion to win a defence contract, imagine topgun in space. They also hate each others guts because of a woman they both knew when they were young so they're actually trying to kill each other, not just win the race. Coolest cartoon ever imho.

I'd like to see what it would be like to pilot a star fury from Babylon 5, bet that would give the JSF a run for its money.
They could do some cool manouvers cos they had thrusters on all sides, they could stop dead in space and flip round, or head literally straight up and backwards, ending up behind you like a harrier jump jet.
You're getting chased down in deep space, he's trying to get a missile lock on you, suddenly, you're behind him LOL!
Word! Just about any ship from Bab 5 would own any ship in Star Wars in my opinion. You can't beat flipping your ship around when getting chased and firing right back instead of just being chased and trying to turn around.
thanks for the ideas guys, i just have one question

I have read that novel. Are you sure the Macross sada isn't older?
No idea about the book, but the Macross saga came out on October 10th, 1982
Day of the Cheetah was published in 1989. The YF-19 and YF-21 were seen only in Macross Plus, which was released in 1994.
YES. but if you read the robotech books, the high maneuverability of the veritechs is explained as part thought helmets. And those books are from 85...

I'm going to agree here. Love those Vipers...
I totally agree.. on a different note, I'd love to see the space physics modeled like the physics in BSG... can you imagine combat like that???![]()
That would be Battlestar Galactica online and noone would fly in space anymore because suddenly the ships dont fly and fight like they should - and thats why its so cool!

The high maneuverability of the VF series of veritech fighters (this is all from the U.S. release of Robotech, and NOT Macross) was not due to the helmet, but rather the symbiotic relationship between the protoculture used as fueld and the pilot.
Macross is a totally different story, they did a rewrite of the Japanese original of Macross, dubbed it in English, and called it Robotech. Macross Plus is a sequel, many years into the future of the original Japanese Macross, and had nothing at all to do with the U.S. version called Robotech. The U.S. sequels to Robotech are Southern Cross and The Invid Invasion (Mospeada Soul Climber in Japan). Both of the "sequels" were actually stand-alone anime when originally released in Japan. Harmony Gold, owned by Carl Macek, bought the rights to all three, rewrote them to fit together, and made a very long series.
Since Macross Plus has nothing to do with Robotech and veritechs, and was released after The Day of the Cheetah, I can support my opinion thatthe concept of the YF-21seemes to be a direct ripoff of the book.
Just so you know, I played the Robotech RPG for many years starting in the 80's, owned everything on video remotely related to Robotech and Macross, and while I haven't been keeping up with it recently, I still consider myself to be a novice expert on the subject. My regular gaming group had more Robo-geeks than me, and we discussed the whole thing thouroughly, many times to enhance our game sessions.
