That's pretty close to what I used when I did the Imp squadrons, minus the chaff launcher. I used my TIE Interceptor all the way to master, including the corvette, three times. It's a pretty capable ship, actually, if you use your head while outfitting it.
For the Imperial Squadrons I've done, I've always just stuck with the TIE/In for basic anti-fighter missions, and the TIE Bomber for the heavier missions involving gunboats and Novas. Once I get the cert for the TIE Advanced, that's pretty much all I use from there till the end (and after).
But the Interceptor IS a nice ship, no question there.
TIE Advanceds are sexy too.
In fact, a brief run down of Leaph's all time favourite ships of doom, in rank order.
1.A-wing
2.TIE Advanced
3.STANDARD X-wing
4.TIE Interceptor.
In fact, I may go as far even as to say I like the T/A as much as the A-wing and the Interceptor as much as the X-wing. In fact, I love the X-wing too...
The point is that the above mentioned ships fall under the category of 'ships you have to -know- how to use to use them successfully' and other ships do...but they're not mentioned because they're not in my favourites list. Also, I now set up my ships from a pvp point of view so rather than focussing on weapon damage to kill those gunboats a little quicker as some people 'might' do, I focus on engine then guns then shield (or in the x-wing's case, Engine, shield, guns for some reason I am yet to explain to myself)
Hmm. I think I like those four ships I mentioned just as much as each other..but I do love the A-wing most because I fly it most

ok... i was pumped about doing all 9 squads, but now I really want to make an Interceptor into a project ship. Thanks for killing my motivation.![]()
The single best "project ship" might be the B-Wing (and it also fits easily onto the list of ships you have to know how to fly in order to fly them).
242k+ mass seems like an awful lot until you start putting things on it. 4 guns, 2 missiles, and such a sluggish chassis that it practically screams for a prime level 10 engine to bring it a little more under control. And since it's a large bomber and not easy to fly with avoidance in mind, you have to go with heavy armor and shields, areas you can skimp on with lighter fighters. Same with the capacitor as well. 4 guns firing 4 times per second, each, can eat up capacitor energy even with the overload running.
Successfully outfitting a B-Wing is almost a neverending task. Mine currently has an REd QID, REd reward shields, MK4 armor, MK3 cap, MK2 booster, Experimental Blaster, three Advanced Blasters, and 2 MK4 proton launchers. Working on some nice REd guns for it, although for continuity's sake, I might keep Blasters in 2 of the slots and add a pair of ion guns to it.

And beside, Imps get the RG TIE and JSF now and yeh, yeh Rebs can get the JSF as well as the GSF..in fact anyone can but thepoint is, the 'Us Imps have a hrd time squeezing things into anything' isobsolete. I mean...as well as tis, look at heavy starterships. The arguement is just not valid anymore.
However, standard TIE Interceptors are hard core and anyone flying one in pvp these days = hardcore in my book.
Well, even the Heavy TIE, RG TIE and the JSF have less mass than the standard X-Wing (the heavy X-wing has almost 2x their mass). And the X-Wing has way more firepower. Of course, the Imp ships are more nimble across the board . The whole argument is not apples-to-apples IMO. The Imps have faster, nimbler ships and the rebs have more mass and firepower. Even the A-Wing has more mass than the TIE Interceptor. And it's not even more nimble than the Interceptor.
As far as fighers go, I'd like to see a squadron of A-Wings versus a squadron of TIE Advanced. That would be an UGLY battle! They have roughly the same mass, but the Advanced have more gunnery and are more nimble. The A-wings, though, have such a small hitbox that it'd be pretty even, I think.
I like the small-mass-more-nimble ways of the Empire. It's more fun to me. The X-Wing would feel like a bomber to me. I think even the A-wing would feel sluggish compared to a Heavy TIE or an Advanced.
Watch me and Harotak duel. I fly an A-wing, he flies a T/A. Admittedly, he gets me more than I get him but some of our battles have indeed been ugly ![]()
Also, Heavy x-wing has too much mass. It simply isn't needed. If I were Imp I'd fly a T/A for my main ship and a standard squint to embaress new pilots and their JSF's with.

Isn't it great when you get some green-eared hotshot in what he thinks is an invincible ship? I recently blew up a guy in an RGI in my Longprobe. He never knew what hit him ![]()

Now that is impressive. Well done

LOL. don't you love being IMP. The REBS do not understand why Imps like the JSF. I can actully put armor in it if I put small enough guns in it. or go with the normal no armor for the bigger bang. We love the fact we can but 2 guns and have 90k max weight. I guess their hvy x-wing with 180k max weight and 3 guns is not enought for them.
LOL
