Thread: A Message to All Pilots: Get Crafted Components!
Whether looted or crafted is better really depends on what part it is.
Reactor - Crafted usually, but you can rarely get some very nice looted stuff (level 2's with over 15k energy, level 8's with 40k)
Engine - Depends on what you need it for. For pure speed, crafted can't be beat, but for more balanced speed and PYR, its probably better to use a reward engine (since looted ones tend to have pathetic speeds) and RE it with some high PYR loots
Capacitor - This is looted 100%. I have never seen a decent crafted cap, and it seems that frequently you get crazy stats with looted ones. I've got one that has 47.6 recharge and 1200 capacity (RE'd), one that has 44.3 recharge and almost 1400 capacity (RE'd). I've looted a couple that are level 4 with recharge in the low 40's. I just recently looted a level 8 with 51.4 recharge.
Booster - I don't have much experience with crafted boosters, but I'd say its probably pretty close. I usually go for level 4, using the reward that all pilot professions get (25 speed, 1900 max energy) and then combine it with some lower booster drains by RE. Nice and light, good speed, and a very high energy capacity for that low of a level
Droid Interface - If you can find a pre-nerf loot (level 1 with 15 speed), thatwould be your best bet, but otherwise crafted is usually better
Armor - I'd go with crafted just because, while you can get some good loots sometimes, its not worth the effort to RE something that will wear down so quickly, and it can be made quite high armored when crafted
Weapons - Dependent on a lot of factors. One being personal preference, if you want anything other than boring green or red lasers and a couple of different ones with the disruptors and ion cannons, you'll need to use looted ones. You can also get very high vs. shields and vs. armor stats with loots, combined with a RE to make deadly weapons. Crafted ones can be much higher speed, but you tend to sacrifice a lot of damage in return.

Until the recentchanges Iwould bet 99% of the time I havesomething RE'd better than anyone could craft.
I use to be like this. Now I'm half and half. Some things are better crafted and other the MSW won't be able to touch for a long time.
My crafted guns have a refire rate of .256 (lv7) to .250 (lv9) and you can't get that on a level 7+ REd gun. There are four level 9 ones on my Krayte, one level 9 set for my Veksai when I finish the missions, two level 7s on my Bel-22, two level 9s on my YT. There is no way I could find enough guns that shoot that fast to utfit that many ships. That isn't even counting the level 9 on my mining ship. For PvP speed counts, always has. For PvE if you can hit you're target > 50% of the time you will have higher DPS with a fast refiring gun.
For RE loot that a MSW can't touch ther is my level 4 reactor on my Krayte. less then 8k mass and 24k+ Generation. Yes that is 24,000+ of energy from less then 8k mass. I don't have to ever run Reactor overload 4 with it.
Capacitors are another. I have a level 4 with a regen of 44.6 and just shy of 1200 energy. It's mass? Less then 7k.

You don't need a heavy boat to be a vette killer, try out one of the new reward ships with a nice engine and your speed will make you untouchable. It also helps to have a lvl 10 RE'd blaster that does 4800 damage with over .750 vs shields and Armor. I quite enjoy my lvl 8 RE'd shield as well which boasts 2500 F&R with a 16.79 recharge. I haven't done much crafting as a SW but the only thing I would look at right now are the new engines.
I don;t liek light fighters. I am a high mass, high firepower kinda guy- fltting around and didgin aint my style
The only thing crafted on my ship is the chaff launcher and astromech/flight computer, I'm sorry to say.
