But keeping yourself out of the nonsense of the GCW, that's priceless. *shines his Black Sun helmet*

I guess I'm the luckiest reb pilot in the game. I did the Black Sun duty missions from Lok and got my helmet in under a week!!! (about 175 to 200 black sun fighters)

Erm, not to add more problems to your argument - but rebels also have a BS duty, arguably much better than the privateer one as it spawns more ships total and per wave at higher levels. Just, ya know, tossing that out.
Blacksun Helmet isn't about money, it's a prestige item and looks cool when you wear it.
It's true. Rebs have BS duty in Archon's Havoc Squadron. Other rebs can also get BS missions from the trainer too.

The OP is using solid logic but is also assuming that the number one goal in this game is credits.
Granted if someone wanted a Black Sun Helmet, it would be more time efficient to grind 25 million credits or so and buy one. However, some people like getting stuff "the old fashioned way" and would rather get it as a drop then pay for it (these people would see a bought Black Sun Helmet as somewhat tainted and just not the same).
Personally, I don't like the looks of the Helmet and if by some miracle I end up looting one during my RSF tier 4 duty missions (I probably have7-8 or so to go before I grind all the exp)I'll sell it.

there is a big hole in his argument... actually a couple.
you can go overt and grind faction in kessel, kessel has the onlt tier 5 gunboats. tier 5 gunboats give out more faction than tier 4. if you know how you can camp the gunboat spawn. the benefit of this is great, the gunboats spawn immediately after the last one is destroyed, and you only have to worry about 1 GB at a time. when it blows up another immediately shows up. Rinse and repeat.
the BEST PVE ship is the Krayt, High mass, 360* turret, 3 forward firing guns that are able to hit a single small fighter in 1 salvo and exceptional handling for its size. before ROTW it was even useful in PVP, becuase the small fast ships couldnt get past my armor and shields, but i could manuever well enough to get 1 hit in.
nuetral ships for teh win!

tier 5 imp gunboats that is, i dunno if tier 5 rebel gunboats spawn in DS. But i know that T5 imp do not. gotta go to kessel for dat.
oh yeah, hole in argument #3:
yt-1300 is only PB ship with no blind spot and has the smallest hit box. post pub 24 this will be the POB of choice.

I see Imperial Gunboats out there all the time in DS, along with Decimators and Novas for rebels.

The Imperial gunboats in Deep Space are Tier 4s.

Then I screwed it up horribly on several calculations. Now everything's revised and corrected...and it still means something :-).
Everyone wants a Black Sun Ace Helmet. Arguably, they are one of the rarest items in the game that can still be acquired. They come from a single enemy type that can only be found in decent numbers through privateer-only destroy missions.
First off, let me comment on the entire privateer pilot class. Privateer professions don't hold much for anyone who has taken either side in the GCW. In fact, aside from roleplaying and actual ground-neutral players who want to engage in space-mining, the privateer pilot class is entirely USELESS. The greatest benefit of being an ace-level pilot is heading to deep space and banking on faction points for the side of your choice. No privateer profession, under any circumstances, has the ability to do this.
But privateers can get Black Sun Ace Helmets!
Yes, they can...but let's run some numbers and see exactly how that lines up, minute for minute, kill for kill, against what factional pilots can acheive:
Kill count that must be invested:
3000-7000 Black Sun kills in normal space = 0-1 helmets
3000-7000 enemy kills in Deep Space = 165,000 - 385,000 faction points (including no gunboats, only fighters,at an average of 55 FP each.)
(Let's face it...At master level, with decent equipment and droid programs, Tier 4 and Tier 5 enemies are not that different. Moreover, the enemies can be found far more plentifully in Deep Space.)
If you sell these rewards:
1 Black Sun Ace Helmet = 15 million - 30 million credits
165,000FP @ 100cpp =16.5 million credits,55 Large Tower Turrets, or2 PvP Bases Sets
385,000FP @ 100cpp =38.5 million credits, 128 Large Tower Turrets, or6 PvP Bases Sets
(Faction rewards calculated at a cost of 3000 FP for Large Tower Turrets and 60,000 FP for PvP Bases. Remember that each PvP base purchase also comes with two additional PvE bases. It should be noted as well that far lower prices can be found.)
Now, yes, as I noted earlier, not everyone participates in the GCW...but for those of you that have bagged "thousands" of Tier 4 Black Sun fighters and DO take part in the GCW...just look what your time could've been put to. You already know how pivotal the above resources can be in planetary control. Besides this is the fact that the faction points are a SURE THING! You don't take a chance of maybe one day getting some bases to place down...you put the time in, and the investment comes through every time.
If you're still hunting for these helmets, it might be high time you re-evaluated what you really want out of the time you spend.
Comments, critiques, and corrections to this post are welcome. I would love to revise it and make it as accurate as possible. Bear in mind also that economies can differ between servers.
