Thread: Dont ya think Smugglers should slice star ship components?

See, right here isnt a *bad* idea, just an unrefined one.
Take armor slicing for a moment. Not at all a "traditional" modification system. It doesnt increase resistances, per se, but can make it last longer, break-down less frequently, or even occationally work well against specific types of attack.
Now, apply the armor-slice approach to starships in general.
I might not make your ship faster, but I could possibly mitigate some of the chassis modifiers, making a sluggish ship a touch more manuverable, or better, reducing the acceleration/decceleration modifier of your chassis.
Or weapons... no, the refire or damage range might not be something I adjust, but power draw per whot could be changed slightly, or better, damage output might be maintained even when the component is heavily damaged.
That could also apply to engines- not faster, but faster when nearly destroyed, letting your limp back to a station take longer.
What about the eject system? Would be nice to have a "quick-release" canopy, that jets you out of a doomed craft in 1/3 the time. (though didnt I read they pulled wounds from space death or something?)
Missile lock baffeled armor plates, perhaps? Something that forces an opposing pilot to take a little bit longer to get a lock?
Not to take it to too much of an extreme, but what about converting a cannon emplacement to a missile emplacement on a chassis, or vice versa?
Not all of these are gemstones, and obviously the last thing the smuggler community wants right now is more NON-smuggling based content... we're having a hard enough time justifying the name of our profession as it is. But as I said, there are alternatives to how something like this is played out besides creating the ultra-uber weaopn or engine for the 1337 pilot of the month. Regardless, I like the limitation of only putting a slice on a crafted piece. Reverse-engineered parts should be listed as already pushed to their maximums, crafteds that cant compete in raw stats, might be able to operate in a slightly different manner, and thereby become more attractive to clever pilots.

Bwa Hwa Hwa Hwa Ha Ha HA! What a comedian. Speed is already buffed enought. Let smugglers buff the PYR as to compete with reverse engineered engines. But then again, the devs overlooked adding a subcomponent to upgrade the PYR like any other core stat in JTL.
Lol, when I saw you posted here I knew (JUST KNEW!!!!) you were gonna say this. Hehe, not that I'm making fun of you or anything, but I still remember your old thread on that topic. Hehe, but then again whenever someone says the word Uglies I'm there too.....![]()
So far only three people have caught the comment ment to be sarcasim. When are the rest of you going to wake up? ON a Seriouse note about Engine. I can logicaly see ajusting the speed on an engine but not the YPR. In fact I think the YPR should ONLY be affected by the chassis. It would make chassis more interesting to make and it would be worth while to use good resources to make ships. Why should a MSW make a Ship using 50 cpu resources to get so little when he can use 10 cpu resources and get 99.9% of the 50 cpu resources?
I would like to modify the booster slot and allow boosters OR a Vectoring thruster. A Vectoring Thruster would increase YPR but you wouldn't get a short speed boost. I ahve a hunch though the best pilots would almost imediatly stop using Boosters and go to the thrusters... I know I would. Don't use boosters now but I sure would shave the mass down to get some thing to improve the handling on any of my ships.
It should be done on POB ships as a temporary buff only. It would be like running an overload program, the smuggler fiddles with a component which causes damage but increases performance. When you land/repair all the bonus disappears. Basically I would see it as a POB buff.
Now this is a good idea.

No, Shipwrights already perform a type of slicing in the form of Reverse Engineering. If they did allow Smuggler enhancements, they'd need to keep it to craftables only, otherwise these stupendously powerful RE components you hear about are only going to become more ridiculous.
actually I like the Idea as a whole BUT limit it to being done from the inside of a POB only and needed every launch or every few launches to make a RP item as well

...but this would be a decent way to make SW items more viable. Give Smugglers the ability to slice either subcomponents or the finished item.

I do like the idea of "illegal" subcomponent enhancers actually... or possibly sliced sub components. This all may infringe upon the shipwrights that want shipwright quests though.
