For PvP if you want to avoid the "FOTM" thing go with the advanced. I t has less mass then the JSF but turn just as fast and has the same weapon loadout. Big plus for the advanced... it is craftable. I would say for PvE go with whatever you prefer. For PvP use the Opressor if you like the missleboat, or JSF/Advanced for dogfighter.
And if you are able to RE youself a big enough gun, the TIE Heavy is a good alternative to the advanced. Though if you are just getting started, try the advanced first. This will let you use a couple of weapons (and generally you can get more damage out oftwo weapons than onefor the same mass) until you RE a bigger one as well as teach you about mass management better than a 95k mass fighter.

Well, seeing as how PvP in DS has no decay anyway - not much of an issue.
Which sucks for the ShipWrights. =/
That's questionable. I know I've spent a lot of money at my local shipwrights' vendors that I might not have if there was decayin DS and I was too scrared to spend so much time PvPing.
Oh, ok. This was referring to this. Maybe that clears things up

Yeah, was trying to point out how daft it is that we've managed to entirely this thread debating over a sidenote that was nothing more than an afterthought to the main point of the post. ![]()
Erm, I'd add something back on topic - but hell if I can remember what it was.
Everyone prefers different ships. If you just want the best on paper the stats are posted in the FAQ already.
KSE FireSpray: Trophy ship.
Large weapon spread which mean horrible for concentration of shots but great for clipping hard to hit ships (PvP value).
Heavy mass for bigger and better stuff
Large target profile making it easier to hit in both PvE and PvP
Turns can be awkward but the heavy mass makes for some interesting moves especially in PvP.
Yaw Pitch Roll is low but can be overcome by using heavy mass RE'd engines (need 70-80's for real success)
TIE Oppressor: Imperial Ace (craftable)
Very tight weapon spread but only 2 guns
Heavy mass for bigger and better stuff (170k still falls short of most rebel ships)
Medium target profile
Turns can be awkard but the heavy mass makes for some interesting moves especially in PvP.
Yaw Pitch Roll is very low but can be overcome by using heavy mass RE'd engines (need 70-80s for real success)
Jedi Starfighter: Teir 4 reward loot
Very tight weapon spread. 2 guns available
Medium mass (90k) for medium damage and speed items
Small target profile
Turns are extremely tight. Can achieve moves that are impossible for crafted JTL ships.
Yaw Pitch Roll is VERY high making it not necessary to worry about mods on engine YPR. Low mass engines with low 60's is more than sufficient and can match engines in their 80's allowing for more emphasis and mass to be allotted to other items.
Summary: The KSE is nice to fly and a well match for the Oppressor (althought the KSE has more mass for better stuff) but is expensive and not really worth the extra effort.
The Oppressor is the general all around good ship to have. Its extra mass gives you the ability to have larger shields and weapons but is also mandatory to have a good engine to keep up with the JSF. The extra shields and armor does little to help in space PvP but are excellent for PvE.
The JSF relies on its manueveribility to avoid incoming fire than its shields and armor. This is especially true with PvE but due to the mechanics of space PvP shields and armor mean very very little. Its innate turns means that even the most craptastic engine will put out turns that will make your eyes water. With PvP the way it is, even lower end teir 6 and 7 weapons are more than suffiecient to take on even the heaviest armored and shield player with ease.
Conclusion:
KSE- Excellent ship in all aspects but the cost and effort to get it dimishes its worth when other ships can fill in the gap.
Oppressor- best multi-use ship. Excellent for PvP and PvE. Requires more effort to acquire good ship parts.
JSF- best PvP ship only. Requires medium effort to acquire acceptable ship parts. Can be used in PvE but requires more time and effort than other more powerful ships especially vs. medium and capital ships.
The JSF is the best all around ship. It has enough mass to mount guns that can kill or disable in one hit in PvP, unless your opponent has a shifted shield. By the same token, its the hardest ship in the game to hit, excluding the bugged RG Interceptor.
The TIE Oppressor's primary strength in PvP is its three missile tubes. If you fire them at close range, you'll kill your opponent nine times out of ten. The Oppressor also has the mass to mount some decent RE'd armor, and a high level cap for getting your shields back up fast with cap to shield shunt. The Oppressor also has a somewhat small profile, as far as heavy fighters go.
The only thing the KSE has over the Oppressor is a little bit more mass. In exchange for that it has one less missile tube and the biggest hit profile from the front or rear of any ship, excluding the Y-8. If you have access to the Oppressor, there really is no reason to fly the KSE instead, unless you just want to look different.
The Opressor is alright, but put it this way, my 3 ships at the moment are the KSE, the JSF and my VT-49.
The JSF is pretty hot, turns awesomely and annoyingly has 10k more mass than the royal tie interceptor which is a damned sight harder to acquire. Certainly not the only option for Imperial PvP'ing but its well and truly FOTM at the moment.
The KSE is great, as long as you dont want to hit anything smaller than a nova courier at 200m 'cause the weapon spread is awful,as previously noted. Still for laying down the smack in PvE you can't beat it. You do however need a pretty awesome engine if you ever want it to turn this century.
Krayt > KSE
Same mass better maneuverability, 3 guns, and it not a flying wall. The down side is that the outside weapons on the krayt can be bit difficult to get used to. Then again when you get used to it you can adjust your roll when chasing a target to change the impact area making it easier to hit that a-wing that is jumping around and still go to pinpoint accuracy for the b-wings
