i just did this 2 weeks ago on starsider, it's definately not impossible and i'm willing to bet my bottom dollar that the source of the problem is the OP has not adequately explored the use of droid commands.
and 2222 you should be using every important lvl 2 droid command you can get your hands on, the mission becomes quite easy after you made the necessary modifications. also, remember that the end of the mission where you need to escort does not go *through* the deathwatch ships, the escort targettravels underneath them. be attentive to where you are flying to and make sure to stay as far away from the deathwatch as possible.
that being said, after you outfit your ship properly and use the correct level of droid commands you can probably beat the deathwatch ships easily. yes, all 5 of them.
