Gods willing, we will never see player owned Star Destroyers. I simply don't trust our player base with them. The last thing we need to see is the ISD Overcompensation floating around Tatooine space, lagging everything up and tossing out insults to anyone who passes by about how he will "pwnz j00 n00bs". I can understand the desire for larger ships, but after seeing the players screw up the Jedi to the point where I have started to dislike them in the movies, I want those idiots nowhere near something as dear to me as a Star Destroyer.

What you don't like the jedis in the movies? Come one Anakin and Sidious owned in Epidose III.

I just wish we can blow away the jedi as easily as the clone troopers did(4 jedi masters were no problem for them)

About the only way player capships could be added (and by Cap Ship, I DON'T mean 1.6km-long laggers), is if it's a restricted quest to reward the best/most dedicated pilots on each server

I agree but at the same time I don't. I can see the appeal in making it a super elite but, at the same time I would like one too and I am not remotely the best/most dedicated pilot on my server. I am pretty sure I don't even personally know the best/most dedicated pilot on my server so if that was the qualifiaction needed I don't think I would even have an oppertunity. Personally I think if implemented (and im still not sure they should be) they should be common enough that any player should fairly reasonably be able to be aboard one fairly often (ie most people would at least have a friend with one.) Although in the end it the same problem I have with Mandalorian Armor. I dont't agree with having stuff in the game that only a few people can enjoy but, I am probably more anti-elitist then most.

Yes, but people having a suit of armor is far different from everyone and their brother's uncle's cousin twice removed having a capship. One is relatively harmless, if yet another violation of canon, the other is a threat to the already hair-trigger stability of the space zones.

I totally agree on that, but its almost imossible to make something in the middle without making it useless. It is either so hard that maybe 20 people per server ever get to use one, or its easy enough that everyone has one. Which is why I would probably vote to not ahve them at all and devote more time to bug fixes and the like.

Actually, a gunboat IS a class of capital ship, sub-capital class. Not quite a fighter, not quite a bruiser.

Essentially it goes as follows (in the US Navy):

Gunboat (something like the Pegasus Hydrofoil)

Corvettes (we don't field something like this [now], but Taiwan does.)

Frigates (like the Oliver Hazard Perry Fast-Frigate design.)

Destroyers (like the Arleigh Burke class.)

And then you have the iconic cruisers and battlecruisers (of which we don't really field anymore), battleships (like the old Iowa-classes), and carriers.

Gunboats are designed for hit and run attacks and light-scale interdiction, corvettes for medium-scale interdiction, frigates for high-speed interception and heavier interdiction efforts, destroyers for prosecution and screening (either surface, sub-surface, or aerial threats - aerial in our case), cruisers for front-line fighting, battleships for long-range direct-fire engagements, and carriers for extreme range precision engagements.

I believe the Coast Guard's cutters are probably as close to corvettes as we have.
