TH recently said they're going to be concentrating on fixes for a few publishes instead of new content. So not anytime soon.

Gods willing, we will never see player owned Star Destroyers. I simply don't trust our player base with them. The last thing we need to see is the ISD Overcompensation floating around Tatooine space, lagging everything up and tossing out insults to anyone who passes by about how he will "pwnz j00 n00bs". I can understand the desire for larger ships, but after seeing the players screw up the Jedi to the point where I have started to dislike them in the movies, I want those idiots nowhere near something as dear to me as a Star Destroyer.

About the only way player capships could be added (and by Cap Ship, I DON'T mean 1.6km-long laggers), is if it's a restricted quest to reward the best/most dedicated pilots on each server, not some ROTW-type quest for the ADDled you can finish in a half-hour or less.

I do think people are blowing the whole thing out of proportion, though - no one ever said you get to KEEP the Vette you fly, it was all just conjecture, and conjecture's had one hell of a bad track record thus far.

yeah I agree... I think a more reasonable assumption from seeing the demo would be an expansion that works more towards the blending of space content with the ground game mechanic. Something the player base has wanted and been very vocal about especially since JTLS beta was wanting to land on a space station or cap ship and be able to walk around on it, etc.

If they do end up letting us have vette's ... nothing bigger please, and they should be hard to obtain. If built by a shipwright, they should take TONS of resources... named... or have them require rare drops to be crafted like RIS. The Shipwright should also be required to complete a series of quests just to get the schematic. That way it will atleast be a while as they trickle into each server... and will cost players Eleventy Billion credits. Oh and another Eleventy Billion to deed.

Heck on top of that, they should require maintenance just like structures.

I'd rather have something like an ISD-lookalike Picket Ship than a Corellian Tampon Ship.

~450-550m long, the iconic wedge shape w/conning tower, only thinner and less robust.

Yeah, because that happens all the time now! You just fly around in space and people are shouting at random others calling them noobs and stuff. You ever been to space? you know that spatical chat only extends about 60M really so whatever that person says lasts all of the split second it takes you to fly a fighter by it?

I dont think Capital ships should be rare at all to get, I hate the elitist attitude allready exibited by everyone in this game with a jedi, people always want things to be rare untill they find out they cant get it, then they get upset. I would rather have the ships craftable by a shipwright and the large crew required to manage the ship and make it capable of fighting make it rare in space. Sure the first week or two you would have tons of them up in space, everyone trying to fly their star destroyer like a fighter and do missions with it, then they realize it takes a crew of 20 just to make the thing operational and useful and that would turn off many a person. Most would stop going into space (just like now) because really there would be nothing to do, the novelty would wear off. Others would abandon their star destroyer to join a crew on other star destroyers and thrus the hundreds you would see would dwindle down to the dedicated.

Jedi should be rare, star destroyers and corvettes should be all over the place, neather are a mystical force in the galaxy that was exterminated 20 years before the setting of the game. Look at the movies, everytime something was going on in space in a scene, a star destroyer was showing up, sometimes three at a time, in some cases 30+ star destroyers of different sizes would show up. How many jedi did you see in the movies? 4 all togeather. Before you wanna make anything rare you should maybe, I donno, look at what you are saying first.

Here's the way i see it

cap ships should be owned by your guild, each guild would have a certen number of slots for cap ships(like datapad slots for fighters) and people could check them out, instead of everyone in the guild having their own vett, also the vett type ships should be the largest player cap ships, under that should be gunboats, and some other type of ship.

edit: i mean seariously, it should take the resources of a group to keep a cap ship running

Actually, a gunboat IS a class of capital ship, sub-capital class. Not quite a fighter, not quite a bruiser.

Essentially it goes as follows (in the US Navy):

Gunboat (something like the Pegasus Hydrofoil)

Corvettes (we don't field something like this [now], but Taiwan does.)

Frigates (like the Oliver Hazard Perry Fast-Frigate design.)

Destroyers (like the Arleigh Burke class.)

And then you have the iconic cruisers and battlecruisers (of which we don't really field anymore), battleships (like the old Iowa-classes), and carriers.

Gunboats are designed for hit and run attacks and light-scale interdiction, corvettes for medium-scale interdiction, frigates for high-speed interception and heavier interdiction efforts, destroyers for prosecution and screening (either surface, sub-surface, or aerial threats - aerial in our case), cruisers for front-line fighting, battleships for long-range direct-fire engagements, and carriers for extreme range precision engagements.

A gunboat is not a capitol ship. The Corvette barely qualifies as a capitol ship itself.

I agree but at the same time I don't. I can see the appeal in making it a super elite but, at the same time I would like one too and I am not remotely the best/most dedicated pilot on my server. I am pretty sure I don't even personally know the best/most dedicated pilot on my server so if that was the qualifiaction needed I don't think I would even have an oppertunity. Personally I think if implemented (and im still not sure they should be) they should be common enough that any player should fairly reasonably be able to be aboard one fairly often (ie most people would at least have a friend with one.) Although in the end it the same problem I have with Mandalorian Armor. I dont't agree with having stuff in the game that only a few people can enjoy but, I am probably more anti-elitist then most.

Yes, but people having a suit of armor is far different from everyone and their brother's uncle's cousin twice removed having a capship. One is relatively harmless, if yet another violation of canon, the other is a threat to the already hair-trigger stability of the space zones.

I just wish we can blow away the jedi as easily as the clone troopers did(4 jedi masters were no problem for them)

I don't like Jedi period. The smile on my face as they were gunned down was pure, unmitigated, sadistic glee. "Destroy them, destroy them all."
