You can solo the Vette, escort and all, in a Tier 1 ship if you know what you are doing.
all im saying is you cant stick with your ship when you got tier 4s on youand whenever you actually go for your ship to catch up, because if you are too far it fails you, the tier 4s blow you out of the sky pretty fast and in a tier 1, very fast.
the devs just should check where they put the damn spawns, plain and simple, you shouldnt have to run a quest and worry about other spawns that it has nothing to do with it.

well im no pilot but i also here that you can get behindthe vette and it cant shoot you, is this what your talking about?
It's called spatial awareness. I soloed that mission too, and I never faced a Death Watch. I saw them in the distance, but I made sure of where I was in relation to them, my escort, and all the spawns sent for my mission. They don't run any mission straight through enemy spawns. I know this because I was one of the many people reporting those problems during beta and they got fixed. Yes, some natural spawns are close, but not that close, if you pay attention to where you are.
In fact, I found several Storm Squad missions pretty easy because they DO send them through friendly spawn points still. Too often the foes were swarmed by tier3-4 imps and totally distracted.

Ok first problem is your ship.
you should be maxing potential. Heavy tie or tie/in at least
you should be using at least markIII components for your ship.
Either a crafted markIII blaster with fast refire. Or a nice looted .600 vs shields and armor weapon but im guessing youll have more luck getting a good crafted blaster.
with the v3 flightcomputer you should have you can run a variety of overloads. Weapon overload 3 is a must have find one and use it. (dont bother with 2 on this one 3 is the best allways)
others you can use that would be helpfull are
capacitor overload 2 or 3
cap to shield shunt 2 or 3
reactor overload 2 or 3
engine overload 2 or 3 (can be a total reactor drain pig be carefull)
Overload 2 use 10 storage
Overload 3 use 20
A v3 flight comp has 70 storage.
Allways run reactor overload then weapons then cap then engine.
If you get in a pinch use shield shunt to use a percentage of your free capacitor energy to recharge shields.
Oh and i grind tier 4 ships starting at 1211 pilot. you have skills for a reason you have to maximize them at all times. And when in doubt find other pilots to help. Having just one other person up there to help can make a world of difference.

I did do it in a light mass TIE, but I was running the droid programs he's refering to, mainly WO3, EO2, CO and CtSS. I was trying to make it through a couple more missions to get the interceptor, but had to break down and buy the TIE/In on the next mission.

...last week..... nope must have been another person.
devs should atleast run the missions before they put them in the game.
Go read the FAQ, check out a few threads. Learn droid programming. You can do this.
Space isn't just punching a button to kill a Bol.
Yeah, its pushing 3 buttons to kill a commerce raider

Newsflash, if you'd looked on the Pilot FAQ (yes, I know it's long and there aren't any pictures to compound the purdy colors), you'd have seen a little notation saying SS was considered to be not only the hardest IMPERIAL squadron, but hardest PERIOD.
