If I'm overt, I generally try to stay aware ... the only time I took fire (I don't really have a good setup for PvP yet) was going overt into Kessel, and I hypered out just in time to lose almost all my rear armour. I would have been better off if I'd been able to go faster. I picked up the other pilot a couple of k away, turned tail and ran, and started the hyper countdown, and they STILL caught up like I was standing still!

It's why I also set up the hyper jump, I was actually at full shields and armour when the display shifted to the jump itself, then when I came out of it, shield gone, armour barely there.

killing someone unaware you are there is just no fun. better to send a warning tell so that they;

1. know your name

and

2. have time to become afriad before they die

I like that... time to set up a macro.

Already did that. I'd rather fight then win.

/tt (tell target) Works great. I usually shoot them a warning that they are in violation of Imperial law, pause 2, then ask that they leave immediatly, and that this is their only warning. Then I fly a circle around them. If they start flying towards me, or shoot their guns (at anything) I engage.

And as Ostat said, then they know (and fear)your name too.

The World War I advice 'beware the Hun in the Sun' is clear cut advice to newbie pilots to beware the unseen attacker. So attacking from behind, from cover, from any kind of advantage is nothing new.

Most aces accured their large tallies from victims that failed to see them. Or were in targets such as bombers that just sat there and took the pounding.
Aerila combat is largely about getting the sucker from behind and is nothing to be ashamed of.

(Unless you shoot me from behind down of course in which case you're nothing but lowlife backstabbing cowardly scum....)

i was in deep space once camping outunder the isd, and a freelancer in a krayt jumped in. he saw me pretty quick, and ran for a pack of tier5 squints to hide. i guess he thought that blending in with the rest of the red dots would make me not notice hes there. it worked though, i was laughing so hard i couldnt bring myself to fly over and kill him.

I actually had my first pvp experience yesterday accidentally. I was faction farming a duty mission in Yavin flying my Arc fighter. It was the the fifth wave of ties so there was around 8 or 9 of them zipping around. I calmly blasted them all to bits when I notice my rear shield is pretty well fragged (almost gone) so I cap to shields 4 and flip around onthe source of my misery(I didn't notice the mission had finished), he jukes and moves decently, but the I love the arc for its manueverability and get the upper hand and blast his ass into next week, it took me a second to realize that this wasn't just a random spawn, but some player, who starts trash talking me for shooting a defenseless fighter, it was hilarious!

You have to take steps to make yourself overt in space, so I say if you are, then you are a target. Go afk? Too bad, don't be overt.

Now , that is funny. true and funny.. I thought you rebs were goodie two shoes and all was gave warning before fighting. The problem of being heros.

The only time I got smoked was when I was docking with Naboo space station. I saw read on my traspanet heads up while repairing. then the retrospec token came up when I tried to get out of repair. I saw the grivious fighter pass me has I blew up. No name, no battle record in combat. did not even tell me who killed me so I couild not go after them when I got back in space. What happen to good old revenge killings. LOL. It was a nice attack run. I just think it would have been better PVP if there was a heads up. But, I guess it also depends why the person is out , if he wants to PVP or just PVKill. LOL.

Gotta confess that the only pvp kill in DS I got (out of one!) was dropping in on someone who was too busy taking out the ISD to notice I was there. I wasn't even set up for good pvp - he outpaced me no end as my to speed was about 1k with EO3 compared to his 1200 plus and I had only got lvl 7 guns so he got a warning shot as it took me more than one shot to kill him. That being said, he didn't try to evade or anything.

I felt bad that I didn't announce myself but what can I say? I'm an Imp, he's taking out the ISD -what's a loyal follower of the Empire to do?

You grind in an ARC? Plaease tell me you have no access to an X-Wing (not a Rebel) and that is why.

I happen to like the look of the arc and I love the challenge, I am currently aquiring parts for my guild shipwright to re some nastyness for it. Some people fly for maximum effectiveness I fly for fun and style, the Arc and me just work.

well done... Ignore these guys... if it works for you use it. The funny part is that almost everyone on this forum will tell you to use the ship that fits your style the best but then they make comments about odd choices.

Well I am always open for advice but I really like my arc, right now using a player made engine and eo 3 I can hit an s foils closed speed of 1204, so when I finally get an re'd engine it can only get better. For me the arc is like a bigger A wing with better mass, sure you only have one gun, but you can get a really good gun in that spot and missles, not to mention when flying with a gunner it's a hell of a shock for anyone when you buzz them and your rear gunner opens up.
