Well I've had a lot of bad experiences with guilds, even so-called casual or "barely there" guilds. For that reason I would probably shy away from joining a guild. However, chat channels or mailing lists would definitely interest me. I haven't found any group of freelancers yet so I've just been hanging out on the ASFC channel.
I don't know if there is any dedicated freelancer organization. I think most people fly for either Imp or Reb while in Freelancer squadrons. There is also an Imp channel called chat.ImperialPilots.
Well I didn't want to just barge in on an Imp channel. Leaph told me I should join the ASFC channel so that's why I'm there now.
If you are flying Reb, you're in the right channel. But, if you're flying Imp, ImperialPilots is the place to be. I think I can justly say that we Imps would like to have you flying with us at least until our numbers get larger. Then, I don't think there would be hard feelings if you were to have a 'change of heart' and go back to the scummy side of the conflict. Just as long as it was somewhat 'announced' for both sides to know. You might get some RP bad mouthing, but as you can tell, the pilots on both sides tend to be friendly when out of character. Afterall, what fun is it flying if there's no one to fly against?
Well right now I am just grinding out master pilot. Then I am going to do it 3 more times. Then I'll have a nice bank of reward parts to start getting serious. After that I will probably work with whichever side needs more guys. I plan to flip-flop to the underdog when appropriate. I'll have a nice RP plan worked out eventually, but for now I'm a slave to the mechanics of grinding to try to get back to where I was on Radiant.

well.. i think overall it would be a good idea.. it would be a place that transfers could congregate. get a guild, set up in a city, set some houses down so we have a place to store stuff.. and not just a bank.. cause i know i've got like 300 parts on bloodfin in just a large house..
that right there is a plus.. doesn't have to be a huge guild, but would be a guild that the regulars on starsider know are second characters specifically for flying there. if Rapax doesn't want to continue, I'll try to grab a guild hall and alteast do that much to set up the guild.. would just need a city to set down in with a shuttleport.. I hate riding

As far as placements, the Imp outpost on Talus and the Reb outpost on Rori might be ideal. They are both close to where you can build and you won't need to worry about shuttles at all. Just need to scope out a place. I think Rapax already has a PA Hall. If not, or if he decides to look at a different idea, I have no problem grabbing a PA hall and donating it and a month's maint to the cause.
But, it might also work out well with just publishing out the chat channels and making sure that veterns of the server are responsive in there. I know I heard the call of someone in there a couple days ago and helped them get through a story mission (brand new to pilot like I was a month or so ago). That might be enough to cover some aspects of things. The way I narrowed down which guilds to look at was to go to the weekly events and keep notes of who showed over a month period. Those notes became pretty detailed over time as I would note the full names and guilds of each Imp pilot. After that, I narrowed it down to 2-3 guilds and started full research as to their non-pilot activities. IMHO, that may be the best route for many people to go.

Oi, its not that we're ab-normal, its that everyone else is too normal.
And plus with winter coming its nearly perma dark (at best it gets dull up here). Joys of living 20 miles away from the wetest place in britain.

Well since there's no freelance group I just created the HAIL channel. The purpose is just general space conversation to keep Freelancers in touch, but anyone is welcome to join. The more the merrier.

THat was my orginal intent, but ive come to the conclusion i really dislike PvPing in privateer ships.

With a lvl 8 RE'd shield gen, good armor, and a lvl 10 engine the vaksai can do well in pvp. I have found that I'm competitive with that load, anyways. I'm testing out the heavy syck now, but I think the vaksai is probably better than it. I have my bel, of course, which I'll probably end up going back to though once my lvl 10 engine is RE'd. I'd go rebel pilot, but my guild duties require me to be freelancer for now.

In the end I plan to be piloting an ARC-170 as a Freelancer. We'll see how things go from there.

I see your point and you are correct about the big and I mean "big" disadvantage that the vaksai has. I thought you liked a challenge though?

Rapax - Those screenshots are priceless!
On a side note... and in terrible form... Could someone (who is going to do this endeavor near to Rapax's PA Hall) spot me a medium house (with good placement near the starship terminal)? I will buy the house and repay the maint costs once I get to the server =)
I feel like a punk asking that question =/
