DaveG wrote:I'm finding these ep3 tie-ins a little cynical. If they wanted to make the SWG franchise a closely associated project with Lucas's three prequels then why didn't they make SWG set during the corresponding time-line period? In fact, given the number of Jedi's we see running around, it would have made more sense to set SWG during the prequel timeline!Trying to use pre-quel time-line ships in SWG is nice, but as has been said with the Jedi fighter, these ships will be old, and pretty obsellete. There have been countless JTL posts asking for ships from the SWG part of the time line (ep4-ep5), like the YT-2400. These requests have been disregarded because I suspect SOE want to make money out of associating SWG with a SW film that SWG little to do with. Ergo my initial use of the word "cynical".
I was going to agree, except I remembered a bunch of stuff I have read, and some "strong" debates with a guy named Saxman in another forum
1. Technology is at a pretty stable level. The only major change from the prequels to the OT is scale. There are no quantum leaps in technology
2. Fighters in SW have an operational life-span of a long time. Look at the numbers: X-wing, 50 years old, according to the original sources. Z-95 in some form or another is over 90. Y-wing is over 50. TIEs were developed in the Clone wars. YTs have been around for hundreds of years. AS for larger ships, Dreadnaughts and Victory Star Destroyers are at least Clone Wars ear or older. Corvettes are decades old. And to compare to contemporary examples, B-52s are 50 years olf, and are planned to remain in service another 40. Most current American fighters were designed and build around 30 years ago. And We have only been flying for 100 years now. Technology in Star Wars is a lot older than that.
3. I do agree on the Jedi. I figure they should be moved into a Dark vs Light thing, and out of the GCW, but that is me. That's a different issue.
4. As a pilot, a "Fleet Junkie" and a star wars fan, I am glad to see new spacecraft. I get tired of the same 35 ships. I was thrilled when I saw the Warlord Cruiser for the first time, because it was new to me. I am glad to see new fighters, and would love to see a lot more craft, especially in terms of NPC non-faction craft and Freighters. 1 basic style of freighter is apalling.

Interesting.
Maybe it'll be like the Krayt. It looks about the same size..

Could be. I just hope it means that there will be more master pilot content. I'm hooked on JtL, to the point that the ground game is almost an afterthought.

why would it be rebel? it may be the predecessor of the x-wing, but it's also a pre-empire republic ship which means it's kind-of imperial. maybe it'll be available to both sides.
I wonder if us freelancers will get some new ships. *crosses fingers*
The reason I said I hope it's not Rebel only is because it uses an astromech. Currently, Rebel ships are the only ones that do so. I agree with you though, hopefully it won't be just limited to one faction.

Obviously this the root ship for the X-Wing fighter. I believe it will be Rebel due to that. It's ok though, let's see what else we have floating around shall we....
Sith Fighter, Sith Infiltrator, and I noticed an dinteresting rear view of the obvious TIE root vessel in the most recet trailer. (First few seconds of trailer escorting the "root" lambda)
Those seem like good options for us Imps.
Now what of Nuetrals? YT-2400 (Dev's said they have no plans on that anytime soon in their Dev HOC chat... but they should) Ok, ok.. there is that new POB ship.
Personally, I think the new POB ship will be great as a mining vessel but jusy like the rest of the pob ships will fall into uselessness otherwise. Why? Well, have you tried to crew your Decimator/Nova/YT1300 recently? I'm afraid we'll have to Shang Hai a crew to get a POB ship manned these days. Everyone wants to be a gunner, no one wants to repair components, put out fires, and get ungodly wounds from invisible plasma leaks.
Sure, I'll buy one, but more than likely it's gonna be used for 2 weeks then end up taking up space like my Deci.
The ARC-170, guess I'll have to make a Rebel toon for that one, I'll admit, one hot ship.

I hope thay add the new fighters in without a factional requirement. I would love to see added fighters with only a teir requirement. They most probaly have space quests that let you pick up parts of said ships and have a shipwright put it together for you like the firespray.

Since these ships are pre-Empire/pre-Alliance, I think they will be for everyone just like the Firespray. I only hope it's easier to get than a Firespray.

hmm i have a feeling they are going to make these use prestige points to use to get. It is just a hunch.

Not to be negative, but, yay, another Y-wing, just what we all needed
I bet it goes to the rebels
and the little jedi starfighter goes to the imperials. Which is not what the imperials need either.
I doubt it will require prestige points, thats not how expansions work. Prestige points should be used for content (like dash's ship, if its ever put in) that is free.
I am looking forward to more JTL excitement, don't get me wrong, and I will enjoy getting the new ships, but I'm hoping its not more of what we already have.

Arc 170 will probobly go to the Imperials and the Jedi Starfighter to the Jedi just a hunch.
The Arc 170 is a Republic Starfighter so it makes sense its carcas could be revived by the empire, also stands to reason the rebellion could have found one and rebuilt it. Who knows?

I wonder if there will be any more faction-specific ships. While all the arguments are valid, I don't think the Jedi II fighter will be Jedi-only. The rumbles against that started as soon as it was suggested.
And PLEASE forgive my ignorance but what exactly does "POB" mean?

Interesting thought for you all...
Rebel: ARC-170
Nuetral: Naboo N1 Starfighter
Imperial: Sith Fighter
Jedi: Jedi Starfighter
POB: Mining Ship cert'ed for all(not the yt2400 but would be cool...)
I wouldn't complain if Jedi got their own cert'ed ship if it shakes out like I have it above.
