Thread: Working on Ace 3... now I know why Nuetrals don't complain much....

I've mastered one of every faction, and I can honestly say I had the most fun flying the TIE's, they are so damn good for flying around, the speed and turning is just so effective, especially in PVP. Privateer(Smuggler Alliance to be specific) was the first pilot class I did, and I hated it, the ships were slow, sluggish and huge targets, so I could slam in tons of mass, and? I'd be shot down before I could even use it effectively.

Personal preference in the end, I loved the Imp ships though.

Ya I agree totally Veg. The down side to privateer is PvP, the ships are huge as compaired to the TIE's and the X-A wings. But I totally agree on the Imp part. The imperial professions can turn out the best pilots IMHO

I have to concur. I learned the most as an imperial pilot. Its a profession that forces you to deal with low mass. What i used to do with 100K mass, i now do with 50K to 65K mass. While i used to scoff at 65K mass, i now see it as negligable limiting factor in what i can do with a ship. So when rebels complain about their ships, i tend to be quick in the flaming, because i know better.

As for privateer ships. the Dunelizard blows my mind.

Its essentually, an 85K mass Tie advanced (which is 65K mass) with a *slight* speed impediment, at teir 1. Very cheap chassis to produce too, which i think makes it slighly out of whack considering how it compares to a T/A at teir 4.

^^^ Totally agree. Again it's a personal taste or pilotting style kind of thing. Originally I liked the Aggresor because at the time I was more into "heavy mass" over "extremely agile".

Although, now that I've gotten to be a "better" pilot and I enjoy PvP a bit more speed and agility are my current claims to fame. So everyone, realize, I'm not saying any one prof is "better" than the other, nor am I saying Nuetral>Imp>Reb.

But I am thinking that picking a ground faction based on your favorite ship might be something to think about! LOL!

>>I'm not saying any one prof is "better" than the other,

None are really. What ive found is that regardless of faction, you always have:

- 2 ships you use the most, a PvP, and a PvE ship, the rest are unused.
- an MP ship that just sits there looking pretty in the starport, and not doing much else most of the time.
- A bunch of cool skills that ultimatly you don't use much, or not at all.

I have three privateer aces. Let me list the disadvantages:

No earning faction points as mission rewards

No earning faction points in Deep space

YT-1300 has only two ordinance slots

No bomber

Special tactics blow (who can compare pirate trap to bomber strike?)

No allies (about 5% friendlies vs 30% as a rebel or imp)

I have guild mates who gained several ranks with the faciton they earned going through their missions, and all I got was an ugly grey jacket. We have the best all purpose ships, which is as it should be. The empire has the best fast pure fighters, and the rebels have good role specific ships, which is also as it should be.

>>No earning faction points as mission rewards

Comes out to in the neighborhood of 1100 FP or so. Big whopty do. You can make that much in about 10 mins in kessel, of not more.

>>No earning faction points in Deep space

I agree that, that is a bummer.

>>YT-1300 has only two ordinance slots

And how often do you use those two slots, let alone the YT? Seriously, from what ive seen hardly anyone uses MP ships.

>>No bomber

I'd take a gunship over a bomber any day of the week.

>>Special tactics blow (who can compare pirate trap to bomber strike?)

I gotta tell ya, other than then on the corvette for the master box, ive used ptrap and bstrike with the same frequency. IE, never really used either of them. Oh sure Bstrike is far more useful, but theres no real *NEED* for it other than to showboat for friends.

>>No allies (about 5% friendlies vs 30% as a rebel or imp)
Ah, last i was a privateer, every ship that wasnt a pirate ship came in two flavors of color on the radar.

White and yellow.

Hehehehe.. well that whole Imperial Colonel thing is making it impossible for me to try out Rebel ships, but maybe someday I'll get Jedi and have an alt.. or I could always drop cash on a 2nd acct... meh.

LOL, sounds like you need to start a character on another server, solely as a pilot. At least it'd let you try anothe rfaction without having to burn off your existing FP.

Course, then you get to to do the "who the heck am I flying??" thing when you're doing one of the loooong boring stretches between combats...

..Oh look, x-wing... hang on, what's that noise? I can't attack? Why's that TIE shooting at ME??.. oofyeah

OK, totally agree with the original poster here. (Also, agree with the statement against making any changes.) But most of the posts on the Dunelizard leave out the other key factor (other than a sweet Tier 1 85K mass):you get TWO guns in the thing at Tier 1!!!

My main went Storm Squadron and you don't get 2 guns until Tier 4 with the Advanced. (OK, the Bomber is an option, but I don't like flying bricks...) I took an alt into RSF, and the Dunelizard is a wondership. Still has more mass than my Advanced, and just about as good chassis acceleration stats. (Never have fallen in love with my Oppressor. Even top top top notch engineson EO can't overcome that inertial oversteer.Theweapons pack a mean punch, but I like maneuverability more.)

ButI agree with another above poster. The devs did a good job of trying to balance out all the attraction to the 3 pilot choices. Give people diverse options.

I am rebel on the ground and doing all the pilot proffs. HAve mastered Havoc and Smugglers Alliance

picked up RSF and am 3433 in it now.

I want to be able to farm imperial faction in space so I can do all 3 imperial squads then drop them and go back to either neutral or rebel.

As an RSF pilot, but rebel on the ground I discovered I CANNOT declare imperial overt in space. The imp stations tell me "You are not welcome here rebel scum"

Does anyone know if I were to go ground neutral, can I declare imperial overt in space as RSF...I dont wanna grind away -5000 imperial FP on the ground.../shudder

thats something else I would like to avoid...having to buy myself outta the hole. I only just made my first million credits..almost to 2 million, I cant fathom giving half of that to a smuggler for something I will be dropping later anyway. I just dont wanna drop my rebel colonel rank until I am completely sure if I can go civillian on the ground and get be able to declare imperial overt in space as a neutral (RSF) pilot....anyone??

Makes sense... Sorry I don't know the answer for sure. I did learn the hard way that if you are a rebel pilot and a rebel on the ground that if you drop the rebel faction you also lose all of your rebel pilot skills. I assume it works the same way for IMperials. I don't know if this helps with your situation, but it is good knowledge to have.
