Your contributions on the outside will be:

1. Ferry the Jedi and base slicers to the station
2. Shoot down any fighters around the station
3. Maybe defend against more fighters to keep yourselves busy while the real work of destroying it goes on
4. Ferry them either home or to the next base

I'm sure that there will be some sort of "reenforcement" system, where they spawn more enemies inside the base if a fighter gets through, but I doubt we'll get any more involved than that.

And, of course, the trade off for this is that our already limited flying space is about to get chewed up by ground pounders spamming bases. Joy!

Well, in this particular case I'll enjoy my savings from a lack of SWG subscriptions every month.

First off, I should make it clear I've gots no idea whether any of the stuff in this thread is true.

It sounds possible the space GCW could come in this form, though, or something like it, so I started up a thread in the corr forum today stressing the following three things:

1) Keeping pilots involved from start to finish
2) Making the pilots' role the truly critical ones, with ground crews as our support instead of the other way around
3) Creating roles for as many different types of ships as possible--POBs, bombers, space superiority fighters, and interceptors

I didn't go in for specific suggestions, since we're working with nothing but rumors here (and even when we've got concrete details, suggestions may not be as useful as a description of the ends those suggestions are meant to achieve), but I tried to make it very clear as to what we need to see out of these in the hopes the dev team can integrate them into whatever actual system they end up creating. A lot of these needs are, of course, obvious (to us anyway), but I think that only makes it all the more important to stress them while it's still possible to have a significant impact on the final result.

Personally I think it's a cool idea.

There aren't a lot of pilots in my guild but the ones that are love the space part of SWG and will use any excuse to get up in the air.

The rest of the guild really cant be bothered with space so if we combine something that ground pounders and pilots can both get involved in then that's cool.

Makes POB ships useful and gives us "topgun's" a job to do as well.

Hope they implement this.

2) Making the pilots' role the truly critical ones, with ground crews as our support instead of the other way around

For this, the following three simply things are surely sufficient:

  1. bringing the grunts there

  2. stop the other side from bringing troops in

  3. get the grunts out again

The first and last, i admit are "taxi work", but the second is extremely essential. When the boarding party is already taken close to the limit by the NPC defences (and this happens on GCW bases quite often), half a dozen incomming jedi who plan to defend the base are a very serious issue. If the pilots can keep those creeps outside, they basically contributed more to the destruction than anybody inside, no matter if they still have to drop a missile or something on the base in the end or not...

Well, with #1 and #3.....we get to stop the guys that are trying to do #2 to our side.

Since we're working off a rumor, that about all we can expect. Cook a few ideas up, toss it in the corr board to show Devs our interest, and go from there. The 3 points you have hit the nail on the head.

Won't be fictional, I already have Jedi I know begging me to grind pilot for them. "Just let me ride in your aggressor so I can fly my JSF". I have completely moth-balled my Aggie because of this. My response is now "I don't have an Aggressor and my datapad already has 6 ships"

sorry if this has been brought up, but are you going to have to declare in your ship before you can attack/defend one of these stations?

ohh, and for everyone that is mad about being stuck as a taxi driver, there is another role you can take; defending agianst ships attacking your stations.

also just to add my 2 cents on how this should be done, players who are overt in space should get a message when a base is being attacked.

I would rather see no ferry work, and the only gorundpounder work being in turrets on the station trying to take out the incoming forces.

POB should have to dock, and the slices be run from inside the airlock first, meaning getting that first slice fast is critical so your docked POB does not get blown up.

Idealy, very little ground combat.

Have the attacker focus on getting the team in and out, taking out the bases defenses (pilot combat) and taking out the defending fighters.

Have the defender focus on getting people to the turrets in the base, keeping the opponent from docking, and taking out the escort.

This gives both sides a need for POB and POB protection, Bombers have a roll in taking out the base shields and turrets, and fighters and interceptors have rolls as well.

Lots of refinement needed for this idea, but that is it in a nutshell.

Might be nice if they did it like on the ground, PvP (that you would obviously have to declare to attack) and PvE bases.I of course would be all for PvP only, just not shure how it would go over with the whoel community. But PvE bases would be small, not count for much, and not allow ground troop to land inside to defend it (i.e. If it's an Imperila base, then only Rebel Combatants can land and they fight Imperial NPCS).

That would be nice, even if it was just in that system. Would give people more incentive to roam about overt.
