Thread: Fanfest Space GCW rumors

The following is something that a guildy whom im assuming was at fanfest told me.

The following should be treated as an unsubstantiated rumor and taken with not just a pinch of salt, but the whole damn salt shaker.

To paraphrase his first sentence, "at fan fest they said......"

From what hes telling me, they plan on having dockable bases in space. (think avatar platform i guess). Bases i guess are player placeable. Much like the ground bases im guessing theres going to be an outside spawn of NPC ships, and after clearing those out, you have to dock and take it like you would a normal base on the ground. He said that they said (right away were talking rumor now arent we?) that like the ground they'll have combatant and SF bases.

Thats about all i remember him telling me. Im hoping base placement will be limited in numbers if there is any truth to this. It also looks like some of us who are not all that high in level on the ground or going to be missing out on a good portion of the space GCW content. But i suppose someone has to stay outside and keep the base clear of NPC spawns or overt players. It kinda makes sense because sonys been tring to fuse the ground with space more.

Anyway, thats the rumor as was related to me about a week ago. With not much else to post, i figured id post it. Take this with a shaker of salt and may as well think of it as "well my friends brothers sisters cousins ex roommates wife said...." kind of thing.

It woudlnt surpise me if this is exactly what they have planned though and apparenly is still in the very begining of the design stage. Also related to me was that sony admitted at fanfest that JTL was launched incomplete. *shrug*

Shaker of salt.. shaker of salt.

That's fine with. POB ships will finally have a role, they can transport our troopers into the base.

And as you said, us fighter jocks can fly escort.

They were admitting things like that during semi-closed beta, so no big surprise now.

Heh yeah, as if we who've been playing this game for ages now didnt already know

Rumor or not, i suspect theres a degree of truth to what the guildy was telling me. As soon as im done remastering for the 14th freaking time (went back to inqusisition so i could land at the retreat), think im gonna start putting more time into parts for my deci, and grind a tree in pistoleer to go along with master smuggler. I'll have mucho utility for space gcw IF.... IF... IF .. *IF* theres any truth to this rumor.

I'm sure that there will be some sort of "reenforcement" system, where they spawn more enemies inside the base if a fighter gets through, but I doubt we'll get any more involved than that.

And, of course, the trade off for this is that our already limited flying space is about to get chewed up by ground pounders spamming bases. Joy!

Hopefully, the ground crew will not actually destroy the station. All there fighting and slicing and stuff will result in one goal for them: making the station vulnerable for a short time to missile assault (not blaster / ion cannon / disrupter assault). Final destruction is up to the POBs and Bombers.

Come on, Rapax. You can't tell me that I didn't just outline the most likely scenario for how this will work. I've seen this comming for a while now.

I wish people had to expend skill points for Pilot. Maybe then we'd be treated like a real profession.

Yeah, but the opportunity to vape a Nova loaded with Jedi sounds good. Hey! If I kill 16 Jedi at the same time with a few blaster bursts and maybe a missile or two, does my PvP rating go up?

Treena:
Well, rumor or not, given the ground/space combat intergration that came with ROTW, i wont argue with you because it stands to reason we'll see alot more similar intergration in the future.

Edit:
Jake:
We dont get pvp rating in space. We dont even gain or lose FP in pvp for that matter.

Oh goody. The GCW comes to space, but professional pilots are just the taxis.

Are we? Before the POB (and it better be a POB that is allowed to land instead of all the fighters) can dock, the pros have to take out the enemy fighter screen. Yeah, the ground pounders have to go and clean it out, but in a SF base when word gets out that someone is assaulting a base you can be damn sure more fighters and assault shipswill show up, and they won't be NPCs. Now, its the pros job to make sure the enemy players can not land torepel the invaders.

Now, to make it more interesting, require that after the ground crew has down there dirty work inside, there is one more step: Space Bomb / Concussion / Siesmicbarrage. Make the pilots the first and last line of both the defense and offense.

I wouldn't care HOW much 'ground combat' went on inside one of the capitol POB's as long as my actions OUTSIDE the ship during the fight had an impact on the outcome.

If a poisonous snake is dropped on top of you from a gyrocopter, don’t freak out and shoot your own driver with your arrow gun, making the vehicle lose control and blow up. Its probably just as scared as you are.

I'd say have limited docking slots (like 2). So if you want to fly two fighters up and dock, go ahead...just don't expect to last too long inside. Bring 2 POB ships full of troops and you'll make easy work of the (INSIDE of the) bases though.
