X3 is due out soon and it looks gorgeous. I haven't played the others but, it's something to watch.

I also back Freelancer, excellent game. The story is weak but the action and environments are incredible towards the end. The last sequence is mind-blowing, I had a hard time concentrating.

Jumpgate was a lot of fun, just not enough pilots to keep me playing. Barely over 100 people online during peak hours was a cause to celebrate. Still, the few pvp battles and matter farming runs were always a good time. And I'll never forget Emma. She was the reason I failed missions more times then I care to remember. Was she by Amananth or Hyperial?

I was actually considering picking that up again, if I ever quit SWG. It was a fun time while it lasted.

Hehe, it's been a while for me too.Might have been Hyperion. It was either going after the Instigator PowerPlants or going after Sidewinder Missiles that always made folks kinda cringe going down that spacelane. Course the eels and kraken weren't the friendliest of folk either

Yeah, once you were high enough to get that transport, all ya had to do was run stuff back and forth to get creds.

Freespace, Starlancer, and Freelancer. It's been awhile since I played Freespace, but I remember loving it. Freelancer is pretty cool, although not as well developed as it could have been, I think. Starlancer is awesome, especially because I picked it up for $5

And if you really need a new flight sim right now, here's a good one.

Freespace and Freespace 2.

best space flight sims EVER (IMHO of course )

only downside to them, they leave you really wanting a Freespace 3...which may never happen

I'm surprised the Wing Commander series isn't getting much press here, even if it only wins out for the storyline. C'mon! Mark Hamil dies! Does it get better than that? It's like...eat that, jedi boy! Still one of my all time favorite games, Prophecy and Secret Ops are still installed on my backup drive for those days when I just need to come home and blow lots of things up. Maybe the movie ruined it for everyone?

I just wish Origin had followed up with another sequal, to finish that storyline. Prophecy seemed like the beginning of much bigger things to come.

Definitely check out X2 and the upcoming X3 by EGOSOFT (www.egosoft.com)

The X series is like a modern day Elite with the ability to own an entire fleet of ships including capital ships, destroyers, carriers, etc. Cool storyline, stunning graphics, etc. etc. etc.

if only they made space for Planetside, atm there is only aircraft combat. but they do have the multiplayer craft thing hammered out, Liberator bomber is good fun. 3 man crew pilot has a heavy cannon, another drops bombs and you have tailgunner in the rear ball.

What Lucas arts needs to do is scrap this SWG space light stuff and make a real Starwars space game again - online or not, massive multiplayer or not - I just want it !

I loved X-wing and Tie fighter ( did not get too far in Alliance - was in Med school at the time). Bring back Larry Holland ! Lucas arts ruled space flight sims and early flight sims ( secret weapons of the luftwafa ).

If i could find my copy of tie fighter and get it to work in windows I would be doing that instead of waiting for Bria to load.

An oldie but a goody(We are talking Intel P1s here running at 200MHZ, YES 0.2GHZ(for you younglings)with no graphic accelation or processing chips and only 32MB of Ram Graphic processing chips were unheard of and maybe a 8MB video card if your lucky running in Windows 95/98

Xwing vs Tie Fighter + Balance of Power addon

Xwing Alliance.

This is a bit of micromanagement in your power settings for your ship but you can not beat these games for Star Wars Furballing.

I wish LA would publish a new game from this series. With todays physics and graphics abilities these games would ROCK!

Eve online is a good game but expect to play at least 6 months before you can fly a good ship AND fit it out with decent weaponry (you can get a battleship in about 1-2 weeks if you go for it, but its another 2 months or so before you can even put a weapon on it )

Freelancer was a great game, but got boring after you finished it, still shooting out those aliens in my condor in the netherworld type area to get those great blasters was fun.

And X2 was and probably is the best non-MMO space sim if you have the time to devote to it, also it was very hard to get youre operations running without youre help (at least for me it was) so i spent ages pirating for money and it got old. I do have high hopes for X3 though looks great so far.

Homeworld i wouldnt really add since its a RTS but its definately a great one, havent played the first but i loved the 2nd one.

I played Freelancer with the Ion Cross Moda while back(I had my own server) I got tired of running stake from 1 sector to another and then weapons back to my stake pickup location
