wow... argh? when i did this mission the only blacksun that came through for the second part was 2 waves of 3 fighters... i had no escorts and we sat at the waypoint for a good 10-15 minutes before i started flying around looking for maybe some rogue black sun that got lost before it told me that i was too far away from the waypoint and made me fail the mission... maybe i should just try it again??? argh

You're up against some massive firepower. The 10 fighters are all medium and heavies. If 2 or 3 get on your tail while you're strafing the gunboats you're toast.

Assuming your going to do this again with a group. Split up and let everyone start taking out the fighters first to reduce the firepower. Don't enter turning battles, fly in, fire a few shots, boost out while jinking or barrel rolling. Cap 2 shield shunt to restore your shields then turn around and do it again. Get everyone to do this in a different direction to split up the enemy group. While doing these strafing runs keep an eye on the gunboats and try to fly past them from below to have less damage from turret fire. Once the fighters are gone group up and strafe the gunboats, aiming for the reactor first.

the reactor to disable them? I assume the turrets continue to fire?

I've not done it myself, as RSF is still on my "To Do" list, but my natural reaction is to say "Yes, you have a chance of soloing it." Of course, knowing some details about what you're up against might help.

Do I have any chance at soloing this mission? I've only tried it a couple of times and was blown to bits in seconds.

Yeah buts gonna take ya like 20-30 mins.

Load up a ryxirk with a fast engine, L8 shield, and like three L7 or L8 guns, and start jousting.

I usualy disabled the fighters first, and did the GB's for last. Always target ships on the edge of the pack, never charge directly into it. Stay on its fringes and run like hell both coming and going.

Those gunboats are aggressive.

Helped someone through this before doing it myself, and I got chased by one of the gunboats across the entire sector. 10km later, it's still after me.

I remember that sort of mission, I ended up going THROUGH the fighters (blasting away without targetting), recovering a bit, then jousting the gunboat and boosting away in the opposite direction. It's more dangerous on the first passes, soon the fighters end up crippled or destroyed (especially the faster ones).

2 tier 4 gunboats and about a dozen medium and heavy black sun. Harmless inseperate groups, terribly deadly in combination. Ducimus' tactic is the way to go.

And I absolutely recommend fighters first to reduce their combined firepower as fast as possible.

Two gunboats and a bunch of Black Sun? Sounds like the CorSec third Tier 4 mission.

I thought the CorSec mission was 2 gunboats and 10 fighters, while the RSF was 1 gunboat and 12 fighters ... I don't remember having to joust a pair of gunboats for RSF, and that's the sort of thing that leaves an impression...

One gunboat and 12 fighters seems a lot more doable.

Edit - I say after soloing the 2 gunboats and 6 fighters. "That seems doable, although 2 gunboats? No way!" /boggle What am I thinking tonight?
