It'd have to be something like an NPC apartment building where you could lease an instanced house
putting anything player-placed into the actual space zone would be technically impossible, I'd surmise, due to the fact that so many missions spawn things at certain waypoints or follow routes, and having someone stick their home on or along them would really mess things up. Just imagine the uproar if no one could get a heavy X-wing because there was a space guild hall that makes the corvette get stuck 4k from the station 
And besides, space is laggy enough anyway without the -GRIEF- clan on your server sticking a bunch of space homes in a spot to load and lag you out just as you get to a static spawn of T5 droid fighters in endor 
I'd support something like putting a Skyhook (from Shadows of the Empire) in one or two of the systems like Corellia or Naboo,making it dockable and letting pilots lease an instanced apartment there for money and/or prestige and lots. Or since Skyhooks are supposed to be geosynchronous, and the planets tend to orbit rather quickly, just have them be residential orbital installations you could dock with and launch from, and travel up to and down from from the planet they're around.
I might even say just stick a fully functional starship terminal where the door would normally be, but I think that might make it too easy for Jedi to quickly navigate to and from places without putting them at risk from BHs by going to public starports.

droid, didja read Shogin and my other ideas? We decided we need faction based stations, and squad based ones for the "privateer" profs.

OOO! Great idea! I'd say make them architect made creations that require Shipwright parts to make. We'd need a few more static asteroid placed around, and I'm thinking maybe some in DS and Kessel, too. A couple in all systems. (note that this idea is for all factions, not just SA, and is instead of the original one).

Yes, thats what would be the best for this purpose. And for the casual yacht only pilot...the space station...do a long "phased" quest and get to live on it (with a high cash based maint). Not fo the aces though..they have under-gone enuff hell

Lol that works as well, lots of idea that are workable. Its a shamed the devs didnt do this with rotw

While yes, the idea should be actually usable and work well with the game system...All ideas would be great to have posted. Even if they are horrible when the user posts them, others can refine and make better ideas outta it, or add parts to the already popular ideas.

actually what could be done is force players to keep their houses on the perimiter of the system where you get the message "you've reached the effective limits of your sublight engines" to keep them out of the range of spawns and to limit the ammount of stations in a system. each station would have a hangar to dock your ship (with a starship terminal inside to launch) and the permissions system would be the same as ground residences. Or what would be even better is for master politicians to be able to set up a spacedock and people could add on 1-2 room appartments (through the politician) that could be accessed by docking at the spacedock and walking to their appartment. there would also be addons for cantinas, medical centers, vehicle garages, all connected by corridors which would be crafted separately to create an entire web of one station using the same city system we use now. there would of course be a limit of how many there would be allowed in a system like 5-10 and they could only be put where there are no spawns and at least 10k away from any other stations.

That is a VERY nice Idea!
It is possible that you could stick this into an asteroid, aswell, 'spose you could include both the asteroids and parimeter stations.

make a guild station like the international space station were when one more person joins you justa add a new modual and you can add larger thigs like med bay hanger when city grows and when after every plus 5 you have to update you reactors add solar panels andd better filtration system ext .

Someone posted an idea very like this one, and I approve greatly of both, either way would work wonderfully.
