Not only that, when you are really good, people on your server will know. Kitten's rep is well known on SS, as is Naithen, Morgan', Tomo, and a few others. Honestly, on SS we don't really need the sytem, if you go up there, you will recognize names. Goddess forbid you don't see that damn Pink-Wing coming

I am also a bit worried about a ranking system. On the one hand it could help people showing off their kills... but it may also encourage arrogance, jealousity, egoism and rivaltry in space.

Ok, that is a great idea! I too would like to know those who shoot me down. It is important to get a conversation going to learn from your mistakes! Besides, Reb or Imp, in OOC it is nice to find people with similair interests to chat with

I think I've seen the idea of capitals ships discussed thorough before and I think it's a good idea.
It would be cool (stay with me on this), if each guild were allow to place bases (like asteroid bases) and purchase defense (turrets, guards, etc.). An attacking guild would then have to take down the external defense, "board", and then enter the base and eliminate defense (similar to the ground ones). They would then have to leave successfully via there ships and get far enough away before they blew up, or they would be taken out as well.
Entrace into the bases to and from the guild can include 1 of 2 ways: from the guild they could take a "shuttle" to and from there space station or they could "dock" in space.
The tally of space/ground bases would play a role in the GCW, maybe in more ways than just "faction costs". Guilds would then have to be on top of their ground game as well as space to "win".
A loosely developed idea (and maybe not the first time to be mentioned) but what do you think?

Kind of wandering off topic here a bit, but yes, I too would like to see JTL included in the GCW.

A message who killed me and who i killed would be really cool... it will also force some rebel players to estimate their numbers of kills when they are shot down.
Can be annoying if every rebel player who dies spams the groupchat, stating they were just shot down but they got [insert number equal or greater than 2] imperials before that. Maybe we could add 4 extra skillboxes for pilots... basic mathematics asadding the numbers together would give an imperialfleet twice as large

Well let me add a point of view from a phanatic role-player. Unlike some players of SWG and JTL, I am a die hard Star Wars fan living the fantasy of being in the worlds first, and a gamer enjoying an awesome game second. I am sure that all the Devs and staff of SWG who love the story of the expanded universe beyond the movies, thought of ways to try to tie JTL into the GCW. But there are some things to be cautious of.
The time-line and history of events from the movies and expanded universe of novalizations, linear games, comics, etc, have all added to the plot of the story. There are predetermined events and happenings in the future of places like Yavin 4, Dantooine, Dathomir and others. Although you can create a few missions to tie into the story of the large GCW and story, you cannot allow it to reign free. You cannot allow the players of JTL to influence the Imperial faction from winning, controlling, and eventually owning Yavin 4 for example, when a few years down the pipe, historic events from the New Republic (post Return of the Jedi government) take place and have full control of the "desserted" planet. And while it is fun to play Imp..the point has to be made that you guys lose. To the point of being radical pockets of powerless factionists here and there in a much larger Rebel controlled universe after the GCW. So having JTL influence events of the plot of the GCW has to be done with MUCH caution if it is to be introduced. But several creative missions that dont influence furture time line events would be a great welcome change to spice things up I agree.
So mass numbers of Jedi running around igniting sabers in public hasn't thrown the story for a loop as it is? This game has been around forsome timenow and the storyline has not advanced at all. "Someplace" in between Ep IV and V must have been quite awhile. So we get to see the Wookie homeworld, but Hoth is nowhere in sight. And, somehow, deep in my gut, I think the CU isn't going to change things.
I've been playing since launch and I've never felt more like jumping RPG's. As it stands, I'm putting the game down for awhile to let the CU settle itself out. I hope it will be for the best.

A friend and I were talking about this.
A simple way to include JTL in the GCW would be allowing pilots to purchase capital ships with either faction or prestige. Those capital ships would patrol on the edges of the system they are "placed" in. They would not attack anyone or anything not overt, and could not be attacked by someone who was not declared. Obviously a ship as big as a Star Destroyer isn't practical, but ships like Corellian corvettes, bulk cruisers, Carrack cruisers, lancer frigates, and Nebulon-B Escort Frigates would all be within the scope of such a system. Whichever side has the bigger "fleet" in system would control space, which would in turn gives a bonus (+200?) to the planet(s) in that system for the side who's fleet is in control of space.
Ex: If the Naboo system is controlled by Rebels, the Rebel faction on both Rori and Naboo gets a +200 bonus towards control of the planets.
If the Dantooine system is controlled by the Empire, the Imperial faction on Dantooine gets a +200 bonus towards control of Dantooine.
Such a bonus system would make control of individual systems very important.
Of course, capital ships and their escorts would need to be beefed up so a single overt Rebel pilot doesn't crush an entire Imperial fleet in a system. Maybe using a "vulnerability" system, where a ship is only vulnerable once every couple of days (ala ground bases), or, even better, forcing a party to board a capital ship after it has been disabled to finish it off.
Just a few random thoughts.
