Thread: Problem with cap ships, and heavy assault fighters.

I solo'ed the vette twice last week in my Krayt while out farming faction.

Like everyone else I eliminate the fighters first, draw them off.

Next I approach the vette from below and towards the front and destroy weapon 5.

Then I approach and destroy the gunboats from the blind spots.

Back to the vette then and take it out at leisure. This is without Spacebombs just my trusty blasters.

After you do it a couple of times its not that hard.

The Krayt is great for PvE and a big fat tuna boat for PvP.

Your trying to make these ships do something they were not designed for.

At the end of the day, these assualt ships are good for going toe-to-toe with one or more ships. A plain fight with little fancy manouvers. Give it some good components, and the Kryat certainly excels at this. (cant speak for the other ships).

With some level 10 shields, a decent load out of weapons, and then the standard overloads, the Kryat hasexceeded ANYTHING I have yet seen in PvE, (I'm knocking tier 5's out while everyone else is either hypering out of the system or being towed out). True, it is possibly the worst ship in PvP in existence, hence the reason I dont fight people in it.

It cant fight a corvette because it is designed to go toe-to-toe. Your asking it to match guns/shields with a shiphundreds/thousands/millions (?) oftimes its size. It isnt going to happen. For something like that, you simply cant match its firepower, so you have to avoid it. Hence the faster, more agile, smaller ships.

As important as how you fly your ship, is the decision you make before you even set off as to what ship you will take. Some have advantages that others do not.

Although, I agree with the comments about a components stats versus its mass. Its insane that a agile A-wing can conceivable fit a 1.8k shield, while a lumbering YT can only hold a 3.5k. Until someone in the JTL development room changes their opinions on this, MP ships are never going to be commonly used. I've yet to see a fully manned MP ship do anything 1 (or at most 2) single fighters cannot do.

For my two cents. I love flying my B-Wing for the tougher missions when I'm helping someone else. If you time it right, you can disable 2 or more turrets on a pass of a corvette. And I can't think of a ship more suited to taking out T5 gunboats. Though a X-Wing could work nearly as well for them. Even though its a lumbering hulk, with the right load-out it can be formidble ship. I can't speak as to how it compares to the KSE Firespray because I haven't gotten a chance to fly one yet. But I think it works well as a master level ship. The problem as you say is that there isn't really a ship for it to fight against. Gunboats are the closest to cap ships. I'm not sure why they made the corvette like that where you have to take out the components in order. But its fun regardless.

Its not an easy ship to pilot by any means, but I think thats part of its appeal for me. I always think its like flying drunk, but if you adapt your piloting style and get to know it, it can be very useful for dogfighting and helping others in PvE.

I was trying to mine asteroids in it to get used to how to fly it. It was fun, but I think I prefer a X-Wing for mining, heh. Where theres a will, theres a way.

No comment on PvP, I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. No way I'm going to try PvP in that unless they put in player controlled capships or something a bomber is suited for.

i'm not sure what this thread is about actually, is it about the bomber ships or is it about the corvette? imo the way the components on the vette are set up is absurd. it's not intuitive at all for new users either. how many people do you see shooting at the ship itself expecting to damage it? i still see masters do that today, if you can believe that.

but if you want to talk about heavy bomber's roles, i believe for PVE they actually do exist and fill their intended purpose. the poster who mentioned their proficiency in taking out tier 5 gunboats was right on the mark, you can't compete with those 3 gun monsters in that regard if you have a lighter ship (unless the bomber has poor equipment). really it's efficiency we are talking about and those ships are hands down the most efficient pve ships out there, except against vettes.

so where are they deficient? the general consensus seems to be PVP. but whathappens when we get capital ships added to the game? will the bomber's firepower be needed? what happens when elite POB components are up to par? imo you'll find the b-wings and krayt's will shine when those changes are made and they are properly escorted by light fighters.

i do think the vettes should be modified though. it's really kind of silly how they work.

The kryat is an easy soloer of vettes:

1) get right up under it and right behind gun 5

2) target gun 5

3) match speed

4) get ready for action

5) blow up gun 5

6) boost and max speed down and away from the vette, taking all the fighter escort with you

7) around 2k away or more turn and take out the escort fighters

8) return to the vette and take out shields in strafing runs from the bottom/sides, never rising above the mid-ship level, so remaining guns can't target you.

9) kill it

10) kill its gunboats

Really helps to put a very fast engine in her and always use at least EO3.
