Thread: Problem with cap ships, and heavy assault fighters.
but!!! then I won't be able to solo the vette in my A wing!!
/sarcasm off
I totally agree with you, I love flying the Bwing even as a fighter, but if she actually had a purpose other than to piss most people off while trying to dogfight, I would be ecstatic.
Sadly, I find this is true with my Krayt as well. I suppose if I fitted a Spacebomb launcher I may be able to do something against the vette, but as it is the low acceleration and huge profile as a target make me die by a vette in a few hits. I have gotten pretty good at taking down gunboats, using the huge Rebel blindspot and staying out of the Imperial's range, but without these advantages verse the vette, I have yet to succesffuly take it out. Like I said, I will look into it with spacebombs, but really, the shielding and armor capabilities combined witht he firepower still do not beat a nimble Dune or JSF againts what I understood the heavy ship's intended target to be: captitol ships/gunboats.
I just was killing boats in Kessel just today and went over tothe rebel vette, thinking to have a go at it. I was mistaken in thinking I could survive. I think I migth be abel to manage in the YT1300, with the repair capabilities and all, but in a heavyfighter, no way. Not at my skills. I will continue to train to be able to one day take these things head on, but ATM I and my ship are not up o the chalenge.
It's strange to hear the Krayt mentioned in this discussion. I find the Krayt to be suprisingly nimble for a ship with so much mass. The B-wing, on the other hand, really turns like a tub. It takes real skill to dogfight in a B-wing.
I gave up on it a long time ago. My rebelace uses a Firespray when the situation calls for a heavy loadout. ![]()

Well yes and no ... It is no where near as sluggish as the bomber and b-wing, but at the same time it is about the only thing big enough to hit consistantly with a TIE or B-wing!

It is manueverable, but it is still huge. None of it's traitscan make up for it's huge profile- it still get shot a lot in an engagement with a vette, and shields and armor don't make a difference with such a large ship really. You either get hit and die or you don't.
I guess it is a matter of preference, but I do fairly well on a Krayt and my style of play usually involves chasing as opposed to jousting. I can also solo a vette in it no problem. Sure, its a big target, but if you are behind your enemy it is never going to be able to hit you. ![]()
The B-wing is another matter entirely. I'm almost a sitting duck on it, although I have to confess that I gave up on it fairly quickly in favor of a Firespray. I should give it another chance though.
I actually did rather well with my B-wing .. as long as I stayed away from the TIE advanced and those droid fighters.
Basically I was in Kessel helping another pilot do the vette. Another pilot showed up and says "What are you flying that thing for?" I replied something like "Havn't done it in this yet .. dying to try it." .. Then I thought you know this is the kind of ship you would expect to be used for such targets in the star wars universe.
Then I read some other post about someone not being able to dent the vette "I lay on everything I've got, torps, my best blasters etc. and I can't ever get the vettes shields to go down they're allways at 100%"
Just figured why not put one and one together and kill two birds.

Yeah, I remember when I did my first master Vette mission, back in October and none of us had any clue. We had 20+ pilots and the people who had already mastered were flying B-wings. They were the stars of the show, as it should be. Those were the times before everyone had RE'd components everywhere. Tons of fun! We wouldn't have been able to finish it without them. I must have died more than 4 times in my little A-wing.
As soon as I mastered I plunked down an obscene amount of credits to get a B-wing only tore-deed it quickly and place it in my bank, where it has been sitting all these months except for a brief attempt at findig a loadout on it that I liked. Kind of sad, really.
I agree with you. I wish there was a better role for the real heavies to play.

Hey, can you explain exactly how you do this? Cause the other day I did try the vette, starting with the fighters (it had JUST jumped in system right in fron of me and I was too tempted to let the opportunity go bye), and the second I attacked one of the fighters a vette un swiveled over and had me disabled in a few seconds. I equiped some spacebombs on her and tried to joust an Imperialtoday instead of what I usually do, stay out of range of the guns. I have nearly 2k shiedling on both sides and even going at 1400 speed plus boosting to add some more I lost all my back shields and even used a level four shield shunt. Got hit in the reactor and boom, I am dead.
Sure. There are variations but they all pretty much follow the same idea.
The first step is to lure the fighter escort away from the gunboats and vette and kill them all. Then you can either choose to destroy the gunboats first (I've heard that if you don't destroy them the Vette gets bugged and won't spawn for others afterwards although I've never confirmed this) or go after the vette. These gunboats go in a straight line so they are fairly easy to destroy. Just stay between 540 and 550 meters of one and in the vette blindspot (straight behind). You can shoot them at will. If you are getting hit move away and reposition yoruself after your shields have recuperated. Hit IFF scramble or captoshield shunt if you need to. (You have all the good droid programs loaded, right?)
Once you are ready to actually hit the vette position yourself behind the engines. Your first target should be weapon 5, the lone gun on one side of the vette. Either step out of the blindspot and shoot directly at the weapon or use missiles to take it out. Once weapon 5 is done the vette now has a huge blindspot on that side. Take out theprimary shields, secondary shields and engine. Now it can't move. Take your time destroying the rest of the weapons. You can always hide either behind or on the side where gun 5 used to be and recharge your shields. With missiles you dont' need line of sight. If you don't have missiles then you will have to actually shoot directly at the components which can get hairy when more than one weaponcan target you. Be patient and gaugewhen its time to hide and let your shields recharge. After all the weapons are done then just target the reactor and bridge. The targetting reticle will show you where each part is located.
That's pretty much it. Hope it helps.
