i mean, you think if it was a code related problem everyone would have the issue? but i'm certainly not having it. or if i am, it's happened sporadically enough to not be gamebreaking in any way.

every single attempt i've made to notice shooting at the target and the result on his shield/etc has registered properly, notably when attempting to disable ships. explain the disparity between your account and mine if your connection is not the issue. also, with what frequency is this occuring? 1 out of 10 shots? 10 out of 10? 1 out of 100?

is it possible something else is going on?

Mmmmh, interesting points. Now it gets me thinking... I'll give it a shot at my office to see what kind of behavior I get, should be easy to test sometime tonight since I play off my uber-laptop.

I've had really bad occurences whereI would disable a ship and it would sit dead in space, I would stop all engine from 100m away and blast away square in the middle, see the blast but get absolutely no damage. The I would move away and come back, or sit still and wait a bit until i see some warping that indicated a client/server resync, take a single shot, and it blows up.

I have a fast connection but maybe there is something odd with it. I'll investigate further on this. In the meantime, I'd appreciate any other feeback from other players, whether you have the bug or not, and I'd also appreciate some dev response. They must be aware of this problem affecting some players and might be able to offer explanations and advice on how to eliminate this.

As for frequency I'd say at least 80-90% of my shots ahve to be off-mark to land damage. It's a huge problem for me, and since others in-game have vouched similar behavior, I thought it was more widespread than this. This gives me hope thatI should get some form of dev response soon, shedding some light on the problem and what might cause it and how to fix it on my end.

And now that i know it's not that frequant, I'll definitely /bug it and file a CS ticket.

Anybody else got this problem?

Lol, i know what u r talking about, but I thought it was a countermeasure thingy used by the enemy, so i just found the spot i had to shoot, I suck at flying, but if I got your post right, U r upset becuase the target lineup is off? Maybe your not such an ace you say you are., Just find the spot that does the damage.

Hehe, no... as I said... a miss is a miss, and a hit is a hit. if my client shows me hitting the ship and I get both visual and audible feedback that I did, then I should do damage. I'm actually not too bad in JTL despite all that, just not as good as I could be. I've just gotten good at "guess where the target is".

Well, I was reading other posts and here in ChimiMyles's post on *** Pilot Bugs and Issues (Updated: 11/01/04) ***

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pilot&message.id=855

I saw the following entry:

  • The tops and bottoms of shipsare invulnerable and you can only damage them from the front of back.

This is exactly the bug I mentioned. It seems the bug affects me more severely than others, but it nonetheless remains a problem that affects many.

Reading these posts and having some of this happen in beta, i'm starting to thing it might actualy be 2 problems.

The top / bottom invuln things seems like a hit box thing to me, and is way more noticable on some ships than others.

Normal old Tie's seem to take damage when ever you hit them, the "longer" ships, I have noticed don't always take damage when you hit them from a certain angle, but you do get the sound, and or visual hit confirmation.

I have also seen what looks more like a server / client lag problem, with ships not taking any damage and then blowing up with one hit when at 50% hull.

Have to wounder if it's two problems combining.

Probably. And you are right. I noticed that this "bug" is much more noticeable when fighting Y-Wings than X-Wings. Ii get such a pain fighting Y-Wings, and it's always Y-Wings that seem invulnerable if we are both stopped dead in space and I shoot square in the middle.

ActiveNick, I have not experienced the problems you have described. I play on a Dell Pentium IV 2.5 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 128 MB GeForce 4 graphics card. I have a pretty good cable-modem connection to the Internet, which is shared via wireless network to another very active computer in the house (my wife's). It sounds as if there are definite latency issues between your client and the SWG server(s). Unfortunately, I'm at work and don't have fps or ping stats to share, but they're usually decent.

I agree with the previous poster, be sure to /bug it so it gets some "official" attention.

BTW, I miss the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter games deeply. So far JTL is fairly decent in the same regard, though not nearly as fast paced, in my recollection. Seems more like Freelancer in a lot of respects, especially with customizing ship chassis, etc.

I have the invulnerability bug some times. I also get the wildly swinging ships a lot. Now I know it’s not my computer. I have a AMD2.7g, 1.3gig ram, ATI 9800 pro, DSL internet / 90-150 ping.

I get the same problem as ActiveNick:

- If I shoot so my lasers look like they hit the target, it doesn't do any damage (this is not to do with ships not taking damage from the sides or whatever, although I experiance that problem too).

- If I shoot so the target takes damage I see my lasers fly right by it.

- Neither of these points I shoot at are represented by the lead target indicator.

Yes, I can kill stuff with the game like this, but when I'm aiming at empty space to do it the game experiance really suffers. I have a cable connection, and mycomputer is decent. When I first started flying I thought the problem may be because I'm from the UK and I was playing on a US server, but I've tried it on a European server as well andI have the same problem.

Found another thread on this issue:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=lightspeed&message.id=129761

Based on this, and a few more posts in here, a few conclusions:

  • I am not crazy, others have this problem.

  • You are all right: not everyone has this problem.

  • This is a known bug... hence my call for prioritizing it.

  • I repeat, I am not crazy... lol

I think I am from the few one who understands you. I played tie-fighter PC version and made a 1.25 mil score. If you know what I mean...

The targeting system in Jtl is very simple as long as you understand this rule:

THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE TO MISS A TARGET.

Me and you are old school, wecalculate every shot and get frustrated when we miss. So, unlearn what you learnt from the X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, Alliance etc and understand this:

IN JTL YOU CANT USE PRO TARGETING STYLE (LIKE IN CS) INSTEAD YOU HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY ADJUST YOUR SHOTS UNTIL THEY DO DAMAGE.

Keep the fire button pressed man!

Side note: dont even think that your low level laptop is a system for jtl, we all use 3.2Ghz or better processors with 800Mhz FSB and high end video cards.

Peace.

Invulnerability-

I've noticed this on very rare occasions and attributed it to server lag. After a few moments it went away for me, on one night it plagued my gameplay but I almost never see it now.

I think the problem you're running may stem from the tactics the computer ships used. That little green dot is really just a place to shoot that will land shots if the targets goes in a straight line and doesn't change speed. Problem is that he's turning and your shots will go long. I've found that shooting short of that point is the best solution. Shoot at the corner of the green reticle closest to the enemy ship. Also the sound effects are a good indication that hits are landing.

If you're sure your shots are landing and there is still no damage, then that is probably just server lag, and for the most part it's not a problem for me. I noticed it several times in beta but since going live it has only reared it's ugly head 2 times and went away almost immediately for me.

Perhaps you should try a different server?

I agree with the top post. i get this alot too. not only sliding out of chairs or accross the floor, but sometimes even if im standing there buffing someone i suddenly look up from the keyboard to find im like 10 feet away. and im running a very fast cable connection also. average ping in the 100-175 range FPS around 25-30. the warping ground mobs has been very frustrating. but not being able to bullseye a enemy ship, when im right behind it, seeing the shot splatter off its shields or even do spark damage and not have it count as damage is very frustrating. hope the devs dont just blow this off like so many other issues. cheers!!
