I did say they were extremely hard to come by didn't I? I have looted level 10 guns as low as 36k mass. They don't come along very often and the rest of the stats completely blow on them, but I've got a couple saved up for when I can RE them with some good damage, refire, etc weapons.
It depends on whether your going to use this weapon on you own ship or just sell it. If your just going to sell it then yeah just go with what you got as waiting for that low mass level 10 is not going to make you a ton more money in the end. But if I was going to use it myself I would have waited, because I know how valuble that extra 9-10k mass is that I could save on it.
I was merely saying that if it was me I would have waited for one more component to make it at least 9k lighter and it would be much more practical for a non MP ship. I understand some people don't want to wait a week or so until they can manage to loot that part they need, I wasn't saying he was wrong for doing it the way he did only pointing out that the results could have been better. Sorry if I came off like I was saying he did something wrong, didn't mean to get under anyones collar.

I've seen enough anectodal and personal evidence to convince me there's a bell-curve distribution to the stat tables on space loot.....that is, things can drop with stats significantly outside the "normal drop" range for those items, but they're statistically much rarer. Not so rare and different as exceptional or legendary items on the ground, but kind of in between normal loot and "exceptional-level" loot. For instance, I got a tier 6 loot capacitor with 42 recharge and 1200 energy pre RE - when most I've looted max out near 1000 and maybe 39. Not a big difference, but enough to add up when you RE.
Moral of the story: guilded pilots will end up owning the skies in the long run with collective loot stores =D

You're right, here's how I think the distribution is.
- Common - Average stats, slight variations, but typically in a small range
- Uncommon Balance - Balanced stats, but all lower than your average
- Uncommon Power - Typically more powerfull, but more massive as well
- UncommonMass - Typicallyless massive, but lesspowerfull, too
- Rare Power - Uber power, but extremely massive
- Rare Mass - Uber light mass, but much less powerful
- Rare Imbalance - Uber powerful and extremely light mass
Obviously, the most common is on the top and the least common is on the bottom. Your Imbalanced components are your rares, where they're extremes in weight, functionality, or both, while your uncommon and Common are balanced with thier typical ranges, by having functionality lessen if weight is dropped, and vice-versa.

I got a set of level 10 loot weapons together and had my friendly neighborhood Shipwright drop in and reverse engineer them for me. The final product is as follows:
Drain: 2,025.4
Mass: 45,268.8
Damage: 2,874.7 - 5,029.9
vs. Shields: 0.808
vs. Armor: 0.800
Energy per Shot: 28.3
Refire: 0.391
It just gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling to think about slapping that into the top turret of a YT.

Heh, why stick it on a YT-1300 for her? ohh I dunno...might have to due with the fact that Shona's 'baby' fighter is her Dunelizard....a 45kmass cannon is like a flying gun....not enough space fer anything else =)

I tried, Razi, I tried. I did what I could to build a Duneliz around that gun, but I was never happy enough with the result to use it long-term. I have cannibalized much of 'Burn' (my Duneliz) to supply high-end parts for a new Kihraxz (name TBD), but I'm still testing to see whether it's viable for me to run a K. with a 10k mass Engine and 16k mass Shield.

That is a very nice gun man. I have been saving up a few pieces myself for REing. I never thought since I've only seen loot hit 4.3 k range max that it could hit 5k.
I'm having blaster envy
