Im not saying more people in space is a bad thing. Its a very good thing, and i want more people in space.
But i think what worries me is how errm "mass opinion" of the up-in-comings could end up effecting JTL somehow. Ever see a situation where the devs gave ppl what they demanded, and it ended up hurting the game in the long run?
ROTFL
I figure at worst they'll dumb some missions down to let those with a limited attention span finish. I'm sure SOE doesn't want to have players who get discouraged because they can't finish a T3 mission and take their monthly income to another game.
Time will tell though.

If it'll make you feel any better, the new correspondent Tomo also spends time on the smuggler board, and you should see what happens to redundant questions there.

Yeah.. you ever want to see some sharp fangs on some of the nicest guys around, go over to the smuggler forum and create a subject asking whether tool quality affects slicing. Then prepare to blast yourself into orbit lest you get gored with a pitchfork.
As for an influx of new pilots and the dredging up of much-debated issues, just try to keep patient. We've got a good community here and I'd like us to maintain that. Remember that, while it's important to weigh in on the big issues, you don't have to reply to every post, and that it probably took you a while to crystallize your opinions on the controversial stuff like PVP damage. (It took months for me to develop a solid opinion on that, and it's still changing the more we discuss it.) Those new to JTL will need to be given time to develop their experience with space as well.
