This makes me sad... I'm never in deep space because I can never find anyone to play with, and when I do, I'm always popping an Opressor that's out there grinding faction And here I'm hearing of space PVP on Lowca.... Hope!

Next time you're out space and need someone to play tag with, send me a /tell The Great Starship Schmeldevere needs a workout!

In retrospect it's clear to me why the engine worked. Once I quit spazzing out and came up to the skill level of my opponents, I had a slight equipment advantage. My YPR was slightly better than one of the interceptors, and the other was running at pre-nerf L6 speed which put me well inside his turning radius.

As to roll, what I found was that I just had to reduce the amount of torque I was applying and use it strategically. Steady amounts of light roll helped me to tighten up my turn just enough to lead the target.

Haerb I'm working up a list of folks who are willing to fly canonical fighters in PvP. I'll make sure to give you a yell next time we head out. Also keep an eye out for Vulthoom, Tilca, Poreli and Oiboim.

If we can keep the momentum up for a few weeks, I'll be ready to sponsor a hold-the-waypoint style event.

I left last December with a 5-3 score in PvP, it was rare back then. Came back in May, got into an action in the Kessel system and was humiliated badly in an X-Wing. Moped a while, then pulled my head out of my ass, put together my A-Wing, and learned to fight at the same level the current generation of light fighters demanded. Its been fairly smooth sailing since.

To date, I've put together three ships which are competitive in PvP, and never once thought about going Imperial to get an Actis and my Bel-22 sits in a cabinet on Dantooine. I've got a fourth in the works, and have big plans for Publish 24.

My best advice is learn the throttle. The idea isn't to find the "perfect" sweet spot, but the fastest sweet spot that lets you turn tight with the ultralights. For an Advanced X-wing this is about .82, for a Nova Courier, its about .56. Haven't messed around that specifically with the A-Wing yet.

I have a question regards roll. Even though I pvP quite a bit, ok a lot. As I used to run a Microsoft Sidewinder, I didn't have a twist axis on my stck, so for roll, I used 2 of the hat buttons either side of the central hat. When in fights as I was always looking for a manouver or lock with my thumb, I wouldn't reply on roll too much, more the position of the stick, and maybe a bit of roll when I could. Now I have a twist axis stick, I'm interested as to how easy it is to control the roll, whilst in a spiral fight, without rolling over out of sight of the target. I've not had chance to really test my stick in combat yet, as I've beenbusy moving. So I have a bad feeling I'm goint to be made to look pretty ordinary when I try combat for the first time with the new stick if I can't really get the hang of the twist axis.

A Tad off topic I know, for which i apologise, but it is sort of PvP related

I recently switch to stick-twist based roll. I formerly had it deactivated and used the keyboard default keys, but I'm on a notebook and I found that the keyboard is too much to concentrate on for pvp because of the reach-factor. The challenges for me have been twofold: not rolling inadvertently, and not over-rolling.

Compensating for those two deficits has had a lot of synergistic value. I found that to keep myself rolling properly, I had to concentrate pretty intensely on exactly how I'm using the stick - take it out of the instinct level and put it on a conscious level to 'reset' the usage dynamic. Doing so made me aware of how imprecise I was being on all axes and fixing the imprecision has improved my piloting dramatically.

That's very interesting to hear. As on the small test run i had I did find that I was rolling when i shouldn't etc. So it will be interesting to see if i become more precise in my stick use.

I actually roll really frequently, even when I'm chasing a ship that's flying in a straight line. Makes it harder for someone following me to hit, since I seldom just roll--there's a bit of yaw or pitch added to it to make my fighter weave.

Ah, this thread brings back good memories....

My first PvP experience was during the "Kill 30 Fighters" in Kessel. I was in an A-Wing (no overloads, no RE'd loot, a.k.a. Sitting Duck) and wandered into an Ixiyen pilot's turf. After about 3 minutes of violent maneuvering, I got killed.

My first PvP experience in Deep Space was against Else Whira, who quickly convinced me that Engine Overload 3 does not cut it when you're running an RE'd Level 6 Reward Engine. She nailed my X-Wing twice, I got her Tie Advanced once.

Actually, before RotW, the fighter that I killed most was the Tie Advanced, followed by the Tie Oppressor. Recently, it's been JSFs, B-22s, and RGIs. *sigh*

I've decided to stop being part of the problem and use the Heavy X only for PvE. I'm in the process of setting up a standard X-Wing built around my RE'd Quantum Ion Drive. I'm determined to pack that engine and a RE'd Reward Shield. (Heck, 3 RE'd level 5 blasters is enough in PvP...)

I've been on vacation. We went on a hiking trip to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. It was pretty cool. Kinda strenuous terrain, though. My feet are still sore. hehehe.

I plan on logging on, tonight. Hopefully pop in between 4:45 and 5 p.m. Eastern. Will you be on?

I've gotta get to RS on Rori. I still haven't had a chance to put my house down.
