By going to Deep Space they join the war... maybe its only temporary but that doesn't matter. They take the risks... they should reap the benefits.
Besides, as far as I know they can't go overt without being that faction anyway. If the only objection is that the privateer ships are better. Well... okay, I got nothing. I love the privateer ships, but ROTW looks like it will potentially even things out a bit.
Plus its not that big a deal. Rebels get some pretty good special abilities... Imps get one really great special ability... the privateer ones are just as likely to get you into more trouble than help so its almost as though they got a slight boost in ship power.

Duc, I ran the same argument against some people a while back and eventually got 1-starred enought to drop it.
My issue was simply that: With the game rightfully trying to get people into factions in the ground game, what reasons are there to get people to fly faction navies in space? If a freelance pilot can do everything a faction pilot (and more), why bother going faction?
I haven't yet gotten a good answer.

The only real issue I see is not being able to tell if it's an enemy or not unless you hit the cycle closest enemy player button. Maybe if they would show an imperial or rebel symbol in DS, I could say yeah, go for it.
