as of now, we can only go into Kessel to get faction, and the ships there are sparse. it is my personal opinion that freelance should be allowed into deep space. we can go overt and represent a faction, but we cant go somewhere in that status?
please post your thoughts, whether in agreement or disagreement.

I agree, we have to pick 1 side anyway for overtness in normal space, why not DS too?
Doesnt make it fair really.

Yes u should be able to go overt and get faction in deep space. Problem is deep space is setup to be a battle between Rebel and Imperial. And you have to pick a side when you go in, and that sides only gives out imperial/rebel faction.
It should be that freelancers pick their side and they earn smuggler faction xp for killing enemies of their chosen side. Don't know much about smuggler faction xp so not sure if that is a problem or not but I think it should be that way...

On hand i think privateers should be allowed overt in space.
On the other hand i don't. Privater is still neutral in and of itself. You havent *really* picked a side in the war. Rebel/imp ships are either white or yellow to you unless you tick them off.
Id much rather see iconic ships then everyone in privateer ships - which is what would probably happen if privateers could go overt in DS. Why be imp or rebel pilot then? Privateers have the best droid commands, one of the best master shps, and their teir 1 ship is on par with a Tie advanced for manuverablity.

>< i cant believe im saying this, but it actually is a valid position. in the movies, Han Solo took part in Rebel/Imperial battles (battle against the first Death Star, saved Luke's butt if you don't remember) but he still flew a YT-1300 and was still officially a "privateer" aka mercenary. if he can do it, why cant we?

I think yes.
Few reasons:
- Privateers can only go overt if they're factioned on the ground. If they're not factioned, both rebel and imp station will send them away and not turn them overt.
- If you're factioned on the ground you can only go overt for that faction in space. (A ground Imp can't declare Rebel in space)
- If you're factioned you have only that option on the DS station (a ground Imp can't go into DS as rebel)
So, factioned players already picked a side. They can't just "switch", at least not without dropping their ground faction.
So it should be valid that they can get FPs in DS.

Droid Commands can be copied.
Krayt is a great ship in PvE, beats about every other ship. But it totally sucks in PvP. Its too big and not agile enough. TIE Intercepter and Advanced beat a Krayt any time (if the pilot can fly) and an Oppressor has 3 missiles vs 1 on the Krayt which is a real A-Wing killer with that.
And about the Dunelizard be on par with the TIE advanced: So? Who cares. We're discussing Deep Space here, so everyone that is there is a Master. If its a Tier 4 or Tier 1 ship doesn't really matter. Since you don't get decay in DS either, you can't even argue with costs to buy a replacement.

You totally missed my point.
My point is, with privteers being able to gain FP in deep space, there is alot less motivation to be an acutal factioned pilot. Privateers have it incredibly easy in space. They can pick and choose their targets at will. Regardless if droid commands can be copied, they DO posses the best ones. They also have a very solid compliment of ships for all occasions.
Now allow them to gain FP in deep space, everyone and their cousins sister's ex roommate will probably become one.Which means fewer Tie pilots and fewer Rebel pilots. Suddenly the GCW in space could concievably end up with everyone flying dunelizards and krayts. How Freaking boring!
Is that good for the game? I say, no it isn't.
The truth of the matter is people want to be privateer for the reasons ive already listed. And No matter what the consequences to the game, no matter what logic, or reason one may present, they want their cake, and they want to eat it to. Thats all this is about, fair play has little to do with it.

Engine and Weapon Overload are totally essential. Yes Privateer Droid programs are good, i agree with that. But damnit, get a Privateer and copy them, and stop complaining, or do you hear privateers "Oh damnit the imperials are so fast, because they have engine overload, and I have not"? you'd most likely say to them "You can copy it, shut up"
Pick their targets? Not in deep space. In Deep Space privateers are treated as member of that Faction. Yes, granted outside of DS they can choose to ignore Rebels and Imperials, but there are a lot of others that do not just ignore them. Also if they farm FPs outside of DS, they have to declare, and again are treated as factioned. So "pick and choose their targets at will"? not really.
As I've told you (that point is one, that you seemed to have totally missed) the privateer ships suck in PvP, so there's enough motivation for factioned pilots, if you're concerned about only seeing privateer ships in PvP.
The Dunelizard is about 3 times the size of an TIE Interceptor, and size is a deciding factor in space PvP.
But I stated my reasons why I think Freelancers should be allowed to gain FPs in DS and you said yours, we don't agree and I doubt anyone of us will convince the other of the opposite.

LOL of course not.
Don't think im playing favorites here either because im not. Ive done each profession twice so i have no agenda.
But privateer is in and of itself an neutral profession. If you were to examine the "daily life" of a rebel, imperila, or freelance pilot (IE, the big picture, not just looking at one sector) - a freelance is a fence stradler. Your not in the Imperial Navy, nor are you in the Alliance Navy.
Why should the Navies of each perpsective side recognize you? Your not enlisted in the navy!
Which could be an argument supporting why factional deepspace stations do not (or shouldn't) acknowledge you. THey are for their perspective factions navy, not joe schmo freelance out to make a buck privateering. A freelance ship in military parlance is a POV.. or privately owned vehicle. It is not a military vehicle, again, why should the factional military acknowledge it?
But as i hinted at before. on one hand, it could be a bug, and on the otherhand it could be by design. The truth of the matter is, earnign FP's in deepspace DOES influence a persons decision as to which piloting choice to make. I myself went back to imperial pilot for that very reason. I know several pilots who've done the same. I mentioned this before on the forums and the pilot corrrespondant even agreed that sony could interprett that as a reason why it works as is or should stay status quo.

It's not like they're earning FP out there. I say any Freelancer that wants to fly DS, let em.
Just one more target for me.

Duc, I ran the same argument against some people a while back and eventually got 1-starred enought to drop it.
My issue was simply that: With the game rightfully trying to get people into factions in the ground game, what reasons are there to get people to fly faction navies in space? If a freelance pilot can do everything a faction pilot (and more), why bother going faction?
I haven't yet gotten a good answer.

Well, star ratings are gone. No need to worry about that now
Sounds like were both on the same page and aruging the same thing.

Thats just it, they want to earn FP in deepspace. You have to go overt first to do so, and they currently cannot enter DS overt.
