Given all that, POB's are still incredibly delicate for all their many disadvantages.

Sorry man, I am in a Space Guild, and currently half our members are Master Pilots.
We all own POBs, outfitted with whatever we could afford, and we regularly take even novice pilots hunting Gunboats in Kessel.
The fact is, they have more guns than you, with a faster recharge rate and higher damage.
They are not freighters or transports, they are GUNboats, they are built specifically for delivering high amounts of damage in a short sphere of influence.
You must approach them delicately and with a strategy. Everyone on the ship must be highly disciplined and only fire on command, and yes, a third party voice chat prog is a definite for good communication. TS is ok, but Ventrilo is our bad boy.
We have no probs taking these ships out, even in PvP.
You must note the great imbalance in PvP too, though. Something discussed alot on these threads. That it only takes a couple of hits to any type of player ship to destroy it. The fact that POBs should have better components than those on your X or B wing is being addressed in Pub. 24.
Like the man said, practice, practice, decay, practice, decay, buy new ship, keep practicing.
You'll either get it or you won't. Not every pilot is cut out for flying a POB in combat, just like not every driver can handle a Big Rig. Totally different mechanics and handling. Some pilots are better fighters and some are better in a POB.
And then there are those few of us who excel in both, but I digress because that guy isn't here right now......

Gunboats = anti fighter/"anti anything smaller in the foodchain"
But they are kinda borked seeing as you can sit 550m out and "wtfpwnem" without them touching you. Id rather have them fix that and see whos got real skill to takeout a gunboat by making strafing runs, missile runs etc.

I am not a N@@b guys. I know how to pilot. Full crew. infact...had 6 on board. Full droid commands, capacitor to shield shunt 4 was available in fact. Space Bombs, Missles Mark IVs, High Quality parts.
But my point is. In a ship like that. Shouldn't i pwn...a gunboat at least...and 3 gunboats be a chanllenge. I can pwn GBs in my B wing...come on...thats wrong...
ROFL you cant be serious...... The reason you cna kill GB's in your B-wing is that you manuver around the shots, and they sometimes miss you, the boost away when you get shredded. Next time you say a POB ship is worthless for a situation, use a fighter with the SAME stratagey and manuvers, as there is no chance in hell you can think "I r in a pOB shippe, I's gonna PWN joos" and make a straight straeing run safely. Also, try flying STRAIGHT AT the GB, as you were undoubtedly doing, in a B-Wing, you will last no longer than that Nova did
Why did I kill a Decimator on my first pass PVP in DS with an X wing?
You don't think thats wrong?

Do you often PvP? If you don't, then maybe you don't know that you are making yourself sound a little silly. If you have, then you should know better than to think any ship can stand up to a single pass from any decently equiped other ship.
You are wrong in that you think your armed transport should be able to go toe to toe with a military gunship. You are wrong if you think that any ship will be a tank in PvP - this is FPS combat, not RPG combat.
The Pub 24 upgrades to Elite gear will greatly effect the situation, which is why I started out saying this is a silly discussion to have at all. The POB viability in PvE will be greatly changed, though I can not imagine any Elite Component upgrade that will make any current POB ship viable in PvP (in a general sense).
