Thread: Multi Passenger ships....Junk?!
Ok, here's a few questions for you.
1) How many crew did you have?
2) Did you run droid programs?
3) Do you have a full array of Elite POB components or high level RE'd components?
4) What kind of missiles were you using?
5) Did you have the common sense to turn and pull out when you were starting to get shredded?
6) Did you actually use some common sense on your approach or did you just fly right up to 3 YE-4s and think, "I r in a pOb ship, I r teh pwn!"?

I am a Master Rebel Pilot, and I have a Nova Courrier. The other day, i took it into heavy combat for the first time really. And...I died. Quickly. Against a stupid squad of 3gunboats. Since mass isn't an issue i have UBER parts on that give. The gunboat ate through those shields like it was paper. And forget that stupid armor... 3 shots and it was gone. 2 days later (lasnight in fact) i was PVPing in DS with the boys. As i was in my X wing with uber weapons i happen upon a Imperial Multi Person Vessel (name escapes me) piloted by Real Players....i think i fired 3...maybe 4 shots and the Courier went up in flames...i was like...Nah...round 2...friend in an A WING killed it in 6 shots....are these ships a waste of time? The Millenium Falcon was uber...It went up against a star destroyer ffs..."No Ship that small has a cloaking device". Im sure if Han and Chewie knew they were going to get eaten alive ont he first pass they wouldn't even have tried. How can an A Wing kill an imp ship like that in 6 shots. How can i kill a gunboat in my X Wing and i can't do it without feeling the pain in a Nova?
Is this ship wasting space in my Datapad? Should i just use my Yacht?
Experience is everything.
The message I'm getting is that you pulled up to the gunboats, ran to the turret, opened fire, got fried, and came here.
POB is about having other people on-board to play certain roles, I've been toasted by pilot in his decimator on kettemoor quite a few times while I was in my B-22. He has a talented crew and is a great pilot.

Given all that, POB's are still incredibly delicate for all their many disadvantages.

True, but since when did real pilots take the easy route?
I am not a N@@b guys. I know how to pilot. Full crew. infact...had 6 on board. Full droid commands, capacitor to shield shunt 4 was available in fact. Space Bombs, Missles Mark IVs, High Quality parts.
But my point is. In a ship like that. Shouldn't i pwn...a gunboat at least...and 3 gunboats be a chanllenge. I can pwn GBs in my B wing...come on...thats wrong...

If they make pob ships with the equal strength of 7 people. those shields should be about 15 or 16k front and back. Soon, very soon!
I'm with Janu on this, being a big advocate of POB's. I fly mine regularly and the only elite parts O have are shields, and some high armour. Now I take a crew of 4, all masters and experienced, and we fly in Deepspace, we take the ISD, we take multiple fighters and we have 15 PVP kills, with 5 in a row at one stage.
Yes, in the wrong hands POB's are a Bathtub of Death to the Crew. In the right hands with a crew usuing Teamspeak they are a formidable weapon. Flying one is totally different to flying any other ship. It's not a fighter, and it's not a gunboat. It's a heavily armed transporter, that's capable of taking out most targets if you spply the correct line of thinking. The only thing I have trouble with in my Nova, is the Corvette, as it's so bloody accurate.
So I suggest you go learn to fly again, and then come back when you have had 2 hrs up in deepspace with a crew of 4 having an absolute blast. Listening to the chatter on teamspeak, as people communicate, shouting orders, and running about trying to fix things. It's one thing you can, and never will have in a fighter.

A gunboat is a little higher in the food chain than a POB ship. You need look no further than the NPC versions that float around. I can toast a Tier 5 Decimator on one pass without taking damage in my X-Wing. Can't do that with a gunboat, by a long shot. I don't care what ship you're in, even a Corellian Corvette, 3 gunboats are going to eat you alive. They're practically miniature capital ships in their own right.
POB ships do need some love, and it's coming in a few weeks, but they're not terribly weak. I was killing gunboats and TIEsin deepspace in my Nova yesterday morning with just a single crewmember in the top gun. Flying a POB ship is not entirely like flying a fighter. Different principals in combat, different attack and retreat strategies, etc.
"Shouldn't I pwn?" is a great way of saying "Shouldn't my POB ship just come equipped with an I-Win Button?" Practice, practice, practice. I've killed Corellian Corvettes in my Nova with no crew whatsoever, and killed Jedi Starfighters in Deep Space numerous times. You just have to unlearn what you have learned, and spend a LOT of time flying that thing around.
KraisQelDroma wrote:Just a comment but you shouldn't need to have a third party piece of software "Teamspeak" or "Ventrilo" to be able to play SWG, anything that will make POBs more viable and fun is welcome in my book. Also why do you think that SWG hasn't opened up or developed it's on voice chat channels do you think?
I would say that this a Role Playing game, which might shy the developer to build VoIP software into it. I'm sure there are several other reasons, but I like that one.
Space combat, though, is not Role Playing combat (though you can of course fly and role play at the same time). Group space combat cries for communication, and POB ships just make that cry louder. If you are flying, how do you tell your Gunners to cease fire and your Ops Chair to hit their IFF? How do you accurately direct their fire against the target you are flying against, instead of them pulling random shots at whatever flies by? How do you tell the guy who got out of the bottom turret to fix the leak and repair the Capacitor that the ship is good to go and to get back in the turret? VoIP works very well for group space combat and can be an invaluable command and control tool.
POBs, though are not junk. They simply need to be treated porperly.
The OP told us that he blasts Gunboats in his B-Wing, so flying his Nova should make it even easier. In your B-Wing, you have complete and utter control of your entire ship, while you share control of your Nova with a crew - a crew that does not always know what it is that you expect from them. In your B-Wing, one of your primary lines of defense is to dodge shots (yes, even in a B-Wing), while that simply is not a Nova's defense - if you rely on dodging fire, you will not last long. Specific to the B-Wing, you have 4 weapons and you have very fine control over where they shoot, while your Nova has two turret which are not gimballed, which means every Pilot jink throws both turrets off their targets.
Now that we have decided the POB ships are unlike anything else, the question remains how to use them. Many people have written many ideas about them, so maybe the best answer is to go do some research. Tella-whoever's POB Ship Guide isn't bad and can be a decent starting point, though it contains large sections that I do not agree with.
I will break down three important points...
1) Your gunners will hit more if you fly steady. This includes more one-zxis turning, especially Yaw turning.
2) Kite enemy fighters, just like NPC Aggressors do to you.
3) Find enemy Gunboats blindspots and use/abuse them. Fly into a blindspot, match speed, and let your turrets safely blast away.

They didn't blow up a Star Destroyer, nor even bother taking pot shots at it. They dodged fire and played tricks to escape. Your Nova is not the Falcon and we can not ever expect to be able to dodge fire to the extent the Falcon did in the movies.
A Decimator could be described as a Combat Transport - it is armed because it has to defend itself to fulfill its mission as a transport. The YT and the Nova are both light freighters that have been modified to attempt to serve as armed transports. None of the ships were designed as hunter-killer space behemoths that should be able to take a beating and deliver a larger one. If you expect to take a rather lightly armed freigher against a military issue Gunboat and win hands down... I'd say you're in for a shock, but it seems you already got it.
Use you brain when you fly a POB ships, as those ships require more brain power to run properly than any other starship to which we have access.

*Edit* Maybe I should back back into the habit of proof reading for stupid spelling mistakes.
