I like to hit the brakes and then just as fast as i can, up my throttle again. I think that most people see the "stop and he will fly right by" move for what it is. Everyone has seen Top Gun, its not like this move is some super secret.

So when I somehow have a guy on my six (but that hasnt happened in a long time. they are always on your 12) I will go into a rolling turn and after about a half second (just enough time for my opponent to follow my move) I kill the sublights. I give people the credit for noticing what im doing, and assume they are slowing down a bit to take a shot at me. So as soon as the speed hits 0, I hit a throttle hotkey and go into a rolling turn that is opposite the rolling turn i just came from. It doesnt work all the time by any means. But ive never died doing this. But it does give my opponent 3 chances to make a mistake. If he misjudges, or even is a little late reacting to any of these 3 linked moves that I make, he is left a little bit more vulnerable than he probably would have been before. Little edges like that are the ones that make you kill more than you are killed in the long run.

Crap, now that Ive let that one out of the bag, I am going to have to pay attention to which Bloodfin Imperials appear to read the Pilot Forums, and adjust. God I love Space PvP.

The inherent problem with this move is twofold. One is that acceleration/decceleration is slower than turning with EO4+a good PYR hypermaneuverable. And even if it would be somewhat faster, in ships like the X wing you still could not even dream about that for their acc modifiers. The second (third) problem is the 12'o'clock problem (front shield extremes ) Leaph mentioned.

can stopping then hitting the afterburner be a usefull tactic to get a good tailgator in front of you to driver three guns of love? i know it works in games like Planetside due to the network lag(your stopped but on their screen you keep moving).

And it to your list of manuvers but like avery thing else don't over use it. Although it sounds insane/suicidal, I use a modified version of this move from time to time in my Vaksai. I'll hit the all stop botton then...thanks in part to the Vaksai's J-Lo booty, I'm able to slide around 180 hit boosters to get back up to speed and amazingly....there is my target. right in front of me.

The reason this works I think is because the pilot who was on your can and who you just slightly juked, won't stay juked for long and will swing back to get you and unwittingly put themselves right were you need them to be.

This does not and WILL NOT work everytime. You just need to size up your bad guy and see if you can get away with it. And if you spar them for fun on a regular basis save this move for the finishing move or only use it once very 10 fights or so. Mix it up

I find people's misconceptions of pvp very, very strange. In JTLS there is -no- sure fire manouver as there are so many factors which affect the game in every scenario. The only thing you can do each time to gain not really an advantage, but more of a clue about your opponent is to bait them for a bit first. When it boils down to a straight up, no holds barred (except ep3 ) encounter, you can only act and react. Since we don't feel the huge G-forces which our pilots would be experiencing and we're moving through a three dimentional, frictionless plane without any forces such as gravity taking effect over us, then it is possible to manouver in whicher way your ship will allow you too. I always likened pvp in JTLS to Bruce Lee's fighting style 'Jeet Kune Do' where you make use of the situation to beat your opponent while 'reflecting' their actions against you, to not act rigidly i.e not make use of the same manouver over and over. If you bare that in mind, you won't go far wrong in pvp.
