Thread: Tier 6 Fighters in DS?

That's kinda my point though, any competent master pilot is already "tier 6" or whatever you wish to call it. The ground game has been made more challenging, from a certain point of view, by the inclusion of CL 85, 88, 92 NPCs and the addition of NPCs using specials. As pilots we need more challenges and Deep Space seems the right place to encounter them.

I love Kayl's idea of adding duty missions obtainable from the Rebel Station or ISD. He's right saying it would be excellent training. Additionally, it reminds me of way back in the day, when JTL was young, and I was doing Tier 4 duty missions in Dantooine for the Smuggler's Alliance. That first time I ran across an TIE Aggressor was a surprise and something harder than anything I'd come across so far. Facing three, four, or five of them with those rear facing turrets was a challenge then.

If you threw together something akin to the Kashyyyk Station Tier 5 missions with a genuinely challenging boss, a Tier 6 Baron Fel-style NPC Ace who I-don't-know maybe used CtSS or hit like he had WO4 running and dropped only lvl 9 or 10 loot, now this would be something I could get excited about. And you could up the ante by having to face incrementally more Tier 6s to complete each leg of the hypothetical mission.

The simplest implementation would just be to add random spawns in DS of harder hitting, more "aggressive" enemy fighters to DS. More interesting would definitely be to tie them into repeatable duty missions of both varieties, though I personally despise escort missions.

But the crazy, in-my-dreams, wish list talk would be a whole story driven quest, which the bulk of would take place in DS. You could involve multiple waves of fighters and gunboats, Tier 6 bosses, and whatever else DS can throw at you, including the threat of PvP mid-mission and the inability to hyper out of DS (or the mission fails). Complete enough missions and now you're starting to fill up the inventory, increment up the credit chip, and the next time you /comm the station or ISD and your quest giver passes you off to a "hero NPC" like Wedge or Fel for the rest of it. Shiny.

Heck, make the final leg of the quest an assignment to take down a whole squadron of opposing faction Tier 6 fighters. Make it as hard as you like. I know a ton of pilots in the 77th Wing on Valcyn that would jump at the chance to run this type of quest.

And everything discussed here so far could be implemented using pre-existing game assets. Real crazy talk would involve new limited-use schematics or new art items as rewards for completing said quests. Do you know any Imp pilots that wouldn't jump at the chance to earn a 151st style TIE flight suit, complete with the red piping? Or a Rebel guild that could get schematics for their tailors to craft those Tantive IV trooper helmets? Or a schematic for a CL 54 DH-17 Carbine that you have to be Reb Combatant or SF to equip?

And once you've completed the quest and gotten all the rewards, well then you could /comm the station or ISD for a repeatable duty mission that'd spawn an opposing faction squadron of Tier 6 fighters; a challenge "on-tap" for when you have friends online, but not enough opposing faction players around to organize an event.

Wow, I just went pretty far afield there of my original thread idea.

So, um ... harder NPC spawns in Deep Space? /raiseshand.
